The Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina is seeking a priest to serve as part time Missioner for Spanish Speaking Ministries and part time rector of La Capilla de Santa Maria, Hendersonville, NC. Together, the two roles comprise one full time position. The Missioner will be expected to spend two days/week as the Diocesan Missioner, and three days/week as the rector of La Capilla de Santa Maria. Qualifications: •

Must be US citizen or have immigration status that will allow the applicant to start immediately. (Note: R-‐1 Visas are employer specific and do not meet this requirement.) Fluent in Spanish and English, both liturgically and conversationally. The Missioner must be able to communicate effectively and easily in both writing and conversation with native Spanish and English speakers. Ordained Episcopal Priest Must hold a Masters of Divinity degree Must have parish experience Must have knowledge of and experience in congregational development and/or church starts Must have good social and interpersonal skills Must have good public speaking skills Must have good organizational skills Must be devoted to the mission of expanding Spanish Speaking ministries in Western North Carolina

Must participate in Fresh Start per diocesan policy (14 sessions in 2 years) Must receive required training per diocesan policy (or present evidence that the candidate has taken equivalent training in the last five years): o Safeguarding God’s Children (in workshop or online) o Dismantling Racism o Preventing Sexual Harassment o Preventing Sexual Exploitation

Report directly to the Bishop Work with the Bishop, committees of the Executive Council, and diocesan staff to develop and implement strategies for increasing Spanish Speaking Ministries in the diocese Prepare monthly written reports to the Bishop detailing activities as Diocesan Missioner Attend diocesan staff meetings Spends Mondays at Bishop Henry Center for staff and other meetings, and one other day either at Bishop Henry Center or on the road for diocesan business Attend Congregational Vitality Ministry meetings Submit reports to the Executive Council and Annual Convention of the Diocese Represent the Bishop in matters related to Spanish Speaking Ministries Work with “Beyond Borders,” a group devoted to striving for justice for documented and undocumented immigrants Serve as a conduit of information to keep the Diocese informed of o developments regarding Spanish Speaking Ministries and the Spanish speaking community and o ways individuals, parishes, and the Bishop can take action Speak at parishes to raise awareness of issues relating to Spanish Speaking Ministries Work with and foster Spanish speaking communities and build them into congregations Stay informed about local, state, and national political issues relating to Spanish Speaking Ministries and Spanish speaking communities

Perform typical duties of a rector as defined in the Canons of the General Convention, especially Canon III.9.5.
