Puppets used: "Jose" - Brian "Stephen" - Allan Verse: John 13:35- By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

(Stephen gets close to Jose with his mouth open and makes noise like he's sticking his tongue out) Jose:

What are you doing that for? Why are you sticking your tongue out at me?

Stephen:

Because you're stupid.

Teacher:

That's not very nice, Stephen. Tell Jose you're sorry.

Stephen:

I'm sorry, Jose.

Jose:

I forgive you. But, why did you do it anyway?

Stephen:

I don't know. Because it seems like you don't ever get in trouble when we come here and I always get in trouble.

Jose:

I just do what the teachers tell me to do, that's all.

Stephen:

It's the same thing at school. I never see you get yelled at or have to go to the principal's office. And it seems like every day I've got another grown up hollering at me.

Jose:

I wish that didn't happen to you. What do you usually get in trouble for?

Stephen:

Most of the time it's for not paying attention. Sometimes it's for talking. But today I got sent to the principal because I threw my pencil at a girl who made fun of me.

Jose:

Uh-oh. That doesn't sound like you were being nice.

Stephen:

Well, she started it! I couldn't let her get away with laughing at me just because I didn't know the answer to a question the teacher asked me.

Jose:

You really want to know the secret to why I don't get in trouble?

Stephen:

Yeah. Are you, like, giving the teachers food or money or something?

Jose:

(laughs) No ... I go to church and I've been learning stuff about love.

Stephen:

What? You mean you love the teachers and you don't get in trouble?

Jose:

Well, sort-of. It's like this: they taught me at church that if I show love to other people that it proves I'm a disciple of Jesus.

Stephen:

What does that mean? Disciple?

Jose:

It means I'm a follower of Jesus. Disciple means follower - that I do what Jesus tells me to in the Bible. Trying to be good and nice to people. All that stuff.

Stephen:

Hey, you know I go to church, too. But they didn't teach me that yet.

Teacher:

Actually, Stephen, tonight's Kingdom Kids Bible verse is exactly what Jose is talking about. It's written right here on the white board. Read it.

Stephen:

John 13:35- By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

Jose:

Yeah! That's the verse I learned at my church last Sunday!

Stephen:

So, all you do is show love to other people and you don't get in trouble?

Jose:

Right. I kinda ask myself if something that pops in my mind, like throwing a pencil at somebody, is something that a follower of Jesus should do. I ask myself if it shows love. And if it doesn't, I don't do it.

Stephen:

And at the same time, you're showing people that you are a disciple?

Jose:

Right.

Stephen:

That sounds like a plan I ought to follow, too.

Jose:

Start by memorizing this verse. And then do it. Show love to people.

Stephen:

That's kinda gross. Like, you don't go around holding girls' hands and being all sweet to people, do you? That's kinda weird.

Jose:

I don't take it that far, no way! Mainly, since we're kids, it's just being nice to other kids and doing what grown-ups tell me to.

Stephen:

Let's read the verse again so I can let it stick in my brain.

Jose:

Then maybe you can remember it and it'll help you stay out of trouble.

Both:

John 13:35- By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
