GADGETS AND GIZMOS VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL We are in planning mode for our 2017 Vacation Bible School: Gadgets and Gizmos: uniquely wired, wonderfully made. Vacation Bible School will be held July 17-21 from 6 - 8 p.m. at North Cross. We get five nights with your child to build on the foundation that God made them, God loves them and God has a plan for them. This changes everything. It changes how we interact with one another, our self talk and our hopes and dreams for ourselves and our kids. Through games, worship, storytelling and snacks, we will learn all about how God made us and what it means to be His child. If you would like to serve at Vacation Bible School or register your child, please visit playlearnshare.org/vbs.
S’MORE SUMMER DAYS KICK OFF S’more Summer Days kicked off on Wednesday, May 31 and will continue through the summer. It is a great opportunity for your PreK-12th grader to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
WE WANT TO SEE YOUR PICTURES It is a big party at North Cross this summer as we kicked off our new Message Series this past Sunday “Start A Party!” We hope you picked up our North Cross Gnome to take with you on your vacations, excursions or just around town. We invite you to put him in your pictures on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and tag them with #FlatGnome so we can showcase them. You don’t have a Social Media account? That is ok! You can email them to
[email protected]. We look forward to seeing where he goes and how far from home he travels. If you are unable to be at church this summer, you can catch our message series online at playlearnshare.org/messages. Have a great summer!
Each week teams will earn points for the greater good of their team. We will celebrate the winning team at the end of the summer! It isn’t too late for your child to join and be added to a team for the summer! Most nights we will divide into PreK-5th and 6th-12th grade, with the occasional game of kickball for everyone. Each night after our games, we will finish with s’mores as we continue to build relationships with each other.
THANK YOU, FOR ALL YOU DO! On Sunday, May 28, we had our Buck Starts Here offering. Our offering took in $335.88 to be sent to PET (Personal Energy Transportation). PET helps with mobility devices so that the recipient can become more connected to the community, whether that be attending a market, religious centers, attending school or helping with chores at home. By getting the recipient up off the ground or out of a bed, it also helps prevent other health problems. If you would like more information on this organization, visit umcmission.org.
A WORD FROM PASTOR SHAWN... I am convinced following God can and should be fun. This is not to discount very real experiences of grief, pain and suffering. Life can be very serious. Rather than ignore life’s difficulties, I believe we should commit all the more to laughter, joy, creativity, you might even say, play. It is also why I am so very excited about all we have planned for this summer at North Cross. If you are thinking the church rolls up the carpet and takes a long nap until the fall, you will be in for a tremendous surprise. It started Sunday and will continue through the next several months as we celebrate all God is and all God is doing through us. There has never been a better time to grab your family, friends, neighbors and a stranger or two and introduce them to the party starters called North Cross. Are you ready to join us in extending joy into our communities? All you have to do is “Start A Party”! Visit playlearnshare.org/summer for ideas and resources.
CONGRATULATIONS! During this exciting season of graduation celebrations, we would like to recognize three of our own who have graduated from high school in the Class of 2017! Maddie Lutgen of Park Hill South High School, Katharine Turpen of North Kansas City High School and James Swofford of Oak Park High School. Congratulations Class of 2017!
FATHER’S DAY IS JUNE 18 To celebrate the men in our lives, we encourage all men to bring their family and get a picture taken at our Photo Booth in the Fellowship Hall before services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. We also invite you to take a donut from our donut wall as our token of appreciation for all you do for your family and for our church!
