Club reorganization meeting
August 21 to Sept 4 State Fair Teen Group & County exhibits at State Fair
The Animal Aggies 4-H Club had a very busy spring. Members enjoyed visiting a local sheep farm for a shearing and herding demonstration along with a wool felting project. At another club meeting, members visited SUNY Cobleskill for a fish hatchery, wildlife and herpetology tour. In the month of May, a few members braved the very un-spring like weather and attended the 4-H fishing class held at the Middleburgh Rod and Gun Club, and then participated in the fishing derby there a couple weeks later. 2 of our members are participating in the annual Dog Obedience class and also attended a rabbit showing clinic held in Otsego County on Thursday evening, May 18th. At our most recent club meeting held on June 6th at the Extension Building, members got caught up on 4-H Activity Sheets, and project record paperwork, started organizing their record books, and discussed the fair exhibiting registration process, and welcomed our two newest members. The show is held at the Museum’s Iroquois Farm Show
Junior Dairy Leader Application deadline is June 30. The eligibility requirements are as follows:
At least 16 but not more than 19 years of age by August of the current year and at least starting their junior year in high school in the fall in which the program begins.
Have potential interest in dairy industry careers.
Can reasonably commit to the program from September of the current year to August of the following year
Are not exhibiting animals at the World Dairy Expo during the current year.
Are not participating in the National Dairy Cattle Judging Contest during the current year.
The committee will select 25 to 27 of the top applicants by evaluating the quality of written applications, strengths portrayed in letters of recommendation, and personal qualities highlighted in a written essay. Each delegate will be required to evaluate how dairy industry conferences, workshops, and agricultural tours have enhanced the development of their career opportunities in the dairy industry. These reports will be compiled and delivered in an oral presentation to program sponsors, local extension groups, NYS 4-H representatives, dairy industry leaders, agri-service professionals, and future dairy interested youth.
