The Bullets have racked up 21 tackles for loss, with senior defensive end Joe Ventresca leading the way with 2.5, and eight sacks, getting 2.0 from senior defensive tackle Ben Zepnick.

THE GETTYSBURG SPECIAL TEAMS Gettysburg’s kicking game has received a workout early, with freshman Robby Fay going 12-for-15 on extra points. He is tied for the conference lead in kick scoring (6.0 ppg) without the benefit of a field goal. Caruso has averaged 36.2 yards per punt, and he has made the team’s only kickoff return, which he brought back 89 yards for a touchdown on the opening kickoff of the season. Junior Tommy LeNoir has averaged 7.2 yards on six punt returns.

SCOUTING JUNIATA The Eagles have made their mark on defense thus far, holding their first two opponents to 252.0 yards per game, which ranks third in the Centennial Conference. Juniata also ranks third in the conference in passing defense at 108.5 yards per game. The defense has been paced by sophomore linebacker Ethan Wilt, who has made 19 tackles (13 solo), and junior linebacker Kevin Gorman, who has notched 14 stops, including a conference-leading 5.0 for loss. Offensively, sophomore quarterback Ward Udinski has passed for 227.5 yards per game and one touchdown, and he is also the team’s leading rusher, scrambling for 72.5 yards per game and two touchdowns. Junior tailback Zach McCaulley has added 66.5 rushing yards per game while senior receiver Dominic Bornman has caught 15 passes for 105.5 yards per outing.

REACHING THE CENTURY MARK Gettysburg Head Coach Barry Streeter reached a milestone in last week’s win at Ursinus, picking up his 100th Centennial Conference victory. He joins current Johns Hopkins Head Coach Jim Margraff as the only football coaches to pick up 100 CC wins.

DOUBLE THREAT With his 129-yard rushing, 205-yard passing performance at Ursinus, senior quarterback Kody Smith achieved a rare feat, becoming the first Bullet to exceed 100 yards rushing and 200 yards passing since Joe Gossweiler ’05 ran for 108 and passed for 216 in a 31-30 win over Waynesburg on Sept. 20, 2003.

HISTORIC OPENER Gettysburg’s Centennial Conference-opening win at Ursinus was a historic victory in several ways. It marked the second-highest scoring output by the Bullets in a CC opener behind only a 62-20 victory over Western Maryland (now McDaniel) in 1989. In addition, the team’s seven points allowed were the fewest in a conference lid-lifter since a 40-7 win over Western Maryland in 1987.

THE RUN STOPS HERE The Bullets limited Ursinus to 17 yards rushing last week, marking the fewest rushing yards by a Gettysburg opponent since Averett also had 17 yards in a 45-10 Bullet victory in 2002.

THE COACHES Gettysburg is coached by Barry Streeter, now in his 34th year at the helm of the Bullets. With 169 career victories, Streeter is tied for 10th among active Division III coaches in wins. He is also tied for 24th on the all-time Division III coaches win list. Streeter, who owns a career record of 169-162-5, is Gettysburg’s all-time winningest and longest-tenured football coach in program history. In addition, his 100 Centennial Conference football wins are second in conference history.

Tim Launtz is in his second season as the Eagles head coach. He was an assistant coach at Juniata for 15 years prior to becoming head coach, and he graduated from the college in 1980.
