KSDE Anti-Bullying Week – Next week is KSDE anti-bullying week. Character Word of the Month – The FCA October Character Word of the Month is “cheerful.” PSAT – Mr. Long will be administering the PSAT on October 13 to all sophomores. After Prom Fundraiser – Each Friday morning and at all home athletic contests we have a group of parents prepare and sell coffee drinks and smoothies to help support after prom activities. Linda Aylward and Kendra Arnett are spearheading this fundraiser and are seeking assistance to help sell drinks during football and basketball high school home games. If you would like to help please contact Kendra at 785-822-5504 via text or a phone call. Homecoming – Congratulations to the following students for being chosen as Homecoming candidates: Josh Cook, Zach Neilson, Jake Tiernan, Lauren Cross, Maggie Aylward, and Alex Brown. The king and queen will be crowned at the varsity football game on October 9 against Ellinwood.

ACTIVITY AND ATHLETIC NEWS Sub-State Volleyball – We are pleased to announce that Solomon High School will be hosting sub-state volleyball on Saturday, October 24. We will utilize both courts on the day. More information will be sent out concerning seeding, game times, etc. when the event nears. Schools in our sub-state are: Republic County, Bennington, Ell-Saline, Lincoln, Sacred Heart, Smith Center, Solomon, and Washington County. National High School Activities Month – October 1st marks the beginning of National High School Activities Month with the first week now being called National Sportsmanship, Fan Appreciation and Public Address Announcers Week. New this year is recognition of Public Address Announcers. Solomon High School encourages our spectators to be professional at all contests, displaying good sportsmanship. STAFF NEWS AND INFORMATION AM Supervision: Mr. Tiernan PM Supervision: Ms. Ediger CITW – Be reminded that the three areas that administrators are looking for during classroom walk-throughs are: setting objectives, Providing feedback, and reinforcing effort. These are the first three strategies from the Classroom Instruction that Works training. BLT – There will be a Building Leadership Team meeting at 3:30 pm on Monday, October 5 in the conference room. Faculty Meeting – There will be a faculty meeting on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:30 am in the FACS classroom. Homecoming Week – Homecoming week is an exciting time for our students and staff. Please keep in mind that throughout the week students need to maintain the focus in the classroom despite all the activities occurring. Keep lessons engaging, interesting, and aligned to Kansas College and Career Ready Standards. I encourage staff to be involved in all the activities throughout the week and attend the game on Friday.
