Phase 2: U8 2016-17 Program Highlights Classics Eagles 2016-17 Program Introduction Each year Classics Eagles proudly supports two distinct and rewarding youth soccer experiences: (1) CE Premier – a professionally coached experience (2) CE Competitive – a volunteer coached experience Each program is designed, managed and executed by CE leadership team. These soccer program experiences afford parents the opportunity to select an experience that best matches their family and child’s personal, social and developmental needs/desires. This document introduces the CE Premier Academy Structure, specifically, Junior Development Academy. The cornerstone of each CE Premier team experience is the Academy’s age group specific curriculum which features a comprehensive list of TARGET COMPETENCIES© which create a developmental pathway for players from U6 to U19. TARGET COMPETENCIES© are defined as the technical skills and game principles players are required to possess in order to be successful both now and in the future. We are in this together! Classics Eagles promises to engage players and parents in the developmental process through team, academy level, and club wide communication efforts as well as one of kind CE Education Program for Players, Parents and Coaches. We look forward to serving your family through the game of soccer during the next year! Classics Eagles Premier Development Academy (DA) Senior DA Elite DA Premier DA Youth DA Junior DA *New*

Junior Development Academy: Phase 2 – U8 Director of Coaching: Michael Lentz The JDA experience has five primary objectives: (1) Have FUN (2) Build and develop healthy relationships and social skills (3) Ignite and fuel a passion and love for the game of soccer (4) Nurture a child’s ability to become a creative, skillful, confident, intelligent and respectful soccer player (5) Engage parents in the developmental process so they can support their child’s growth now and in the future The Classics Eagles Junior Development Academy (JDA) will offer two experiences: Phase 1 Experience: U6 & U7 boys and girls Phase 2 Experience: U8 boys and girls Through JDA TARGET COMPETENCIES©, the player-first training & game environments will establish a strong foundation of ball skills, problem solving skills, game savvy, and understanding of the 1v1 attacking principles of soccer. Mike Lentz, JDA Director says this about being a skillful player “I have never heard of a coach (any sport, any level) tell a child he/she is too skilled to play on a team.” Classics Eagles’ JDA program is tailor made for the U6, U7 and U8 player. Each Phase of the JDA experience will expose players to both technical training and small sided game environments designed to be FUN, dynamic and skill growth focused. This opportunity is open to any player who demonstrates a love for the game and is excited to learn, have fun and interact with like-minded players. Continued on the next page

Phase 2: U8 2016-17 Program Highlights In these early stages of development it is a player FIRST approach. Results at this age are not the defining factor in determining how good your child is or can be. Our focus is on developing their potential… what can the player do with and without the ball… is our measure of development. Our players are expected to always compete, in training and games, to their fullest but it is the process and the manner in which we play that determines if we are winning and losing. During Phase II of the JDA experience, Classics Eagles will prepare U8 age group players for their transition into the CE Youth Development Academy (U9 & U10). Phase II highlights include: * Game Format Hybrid: Players will play games in both the 4v4 and 7v7 format * Training Pools:

Players will be grouped into skill level training pools; there is potential for player movement between player pools through the season. Read More on CE Philosophy on player development through the pool training approach, click HERE

* Game Day “teams”: Players will be placed on a CE “team” for the game day experience. Players will compete with different CE teammates week-to-week. Director and coach decisions about player movement will be thoughtful, intentional, purposeful and reflect a player’s developmental needs and progress related to the TARGET COMPETENCIES©. * League Play Hybrid: Players will have game-day experiences against CE teams and other club team * Tournament Play:

Players will have the opportunity to attend a tournament(s) (extra $, optional)

* Curriculum: JDA Phase 2 curriculum will continue emphasize individual player ball mastery; that is how a player uses his/her foot skills and problem solving skills to successfully meet the game’s attacking principles. CE staff will also dedicate instructional training and game time to helping players gain an understanding of the defending and transition principles of play. We teach the game of soccer from three perspectives: #1: Attacking -- “When I (or my teammates) have the ball, I should…..” #2: Defending -- “When the opponent has the ball, I should….” #3: Transition -- “When no one has the ball, I should….” Through these statements, players will learn about their role on a team relative to the ball, their teammates and the opponent. They also gain game savvy…that is, understanding how to play the game given time, space, score, area of the field etc. NOTE: CE does not offer a U8 (2009) team option in the CE Competitive Program. Coaches interested in transitioning a group players out of a recreational environment should consider the Classics Eagles JDA Phase II experience. The U8 JDA Director welcomes the opportunity to talk with coaches about the training and game environment. Coaches will work alongside the CE JDA Director and coaching staff to cooperatively deliver an outstanding experience for the players. Interested coaches must contact Mike Lentz, JDA Director by email at [email protected] for additional information.
