JURY REPORT
22nd DAME - Design Award METS Competition Jury Report on the 2012 DAME Award - Tuesday 13 November 2012 The DAME Award Winner and Category Winners for 2012 were announced at the Breakfast Briefing before the opening of the METS exhibition, including the SuperYacht Pavilion, on Tuesday November 13th. The DAME Jury inspected 115 products from 25 countries and then nominated 39 products to advance to the second round of judging. Only products that made it to the second round were considered for the DAME Award. In determining the winners in seven categories, as well as the Overall Winner, the Jury took into account a number of factors, including design, styling, quality of construction, overall impact on the marine industry, suitability for its intended purpose, level of innovation, cost effectiveness, and favourable environmental impact. Those products that made it to the final round and came close to winning have received a Special Mention in their categories.
Chairman’s Comments The DAME Award's Jury Chairman, Bill Dixon, says the calibre of entrants in this year's competition has been as strong as ever. "The excellent quality of the 2012 DAME Design Award entry list has been clear evidence that the marine industry is continuing to invest confidently in a broad range of innovative and well-designed new products, despite the difficult economic climate. As always, it was a difficult task for the DAME Jury judges to elect the eventual Category and Overall Winners from such an impressive array of diverse and welldesigned marine products. We were, however, very pleased that all seven categories were well represented - especially in the important areas of deck equipment, rigging, safety and navigational software."
And the Overall Winner of the DAME Award 2012 is... TORQEEDO FOR THE DEEP BLUE ELECTRIC OUTBOARD The Jury believes that the new DEEP BLUE large electric outboard from Torqeedo GmbH is an exceptional example of groundbreaking research and development - one which will bring great benefits to both the users and builders of marine craft. Through substantial financial investment Torqeedo have successfully combined two established yet distinct technologies - the large outboard engine and electric motor - for the first time. In doing so they have created a revolutionary integrated propulsion system that is striking in its styling and highly notable for its innovation. In bringing this truly original product to the marine market, DEEP BLUE's designers have achieved a first-class package that offers convenience, price worthiness and performance. It also promises to provide a cleaner, quieter and more economical boating experience for many people in the years to come. Stand no. 11.705 DEEP BLUE large electric outboard.

AMREF has its focus project: "sustainable water access for the Maasai in Kajiado, Kenya". In January 2012 they started with the construction and rehabilitation of 50 water sources in this area and trains local people in operation and maintenance of the facilities. AMREF also creates sanitary facilities and promotes hygienic practices. At the end of 2015, 50,000 people will be reached with sustainable access to safe water through the activities of this project. This morning a cheque of 17,250.00 Euros was presented to AMREF. In the DAME stand, located in the Elicium, you can find more information on AMREF and all nominated products and winners of 2012.
