KATIE JOHNSTON CLASS OF 2015 FIELD HOCKEY & LACROSSE What High School did you attend? The Catholic High School of Baltimore, Class of 2011 What Sports do you play at Notre Dame? Field Hockey and Lacrosse Who is your favorite professional athlete? I don’t have a favorite professional athlete actually. What has been the proudest moment of your Notre Dame career? I have two: in lacrosse when we won our senior game against Rutgers-Camden in the last 13 seconds of the game. My other is in field hockey when we won our game against Bryn Mawr in overtime. Both were moments of pure joy and truly showed team unity. What's one thing you can't live without? My rings and necklace! I feel lost without them on! Where did you go on your last vacation? Ocean City, Maryland What's the biggest obstacle you've had to overcome? Getting used to managing my time and doing my laundry! Do you have any pre-game rituals? I always say “Queen of Victory, pray for us. All Saints, pray for us” to myself before I go out on the field. We used to say it after prayer at my high school and it has just stuck with me. What is your current or intended major? Elementary and Special Education
Gator Spotlight (Katie Johnston)
What other extracurricular, academic or work related activities are you involved in? I am a Class of 2015 representative and I volunteer at A Child’s Place during the week. What other colleges/universities were you interested in? Cabrini College, Immaculata University, Neumann University, and Alvernia University. I had not even thought much about Notre Dame until I realized that the school I was registered to go to was not the right place for me. When I came to campus and met the coaches and other staff, I loved it! What are your favorite things about Notre Dame? I love how small the campus is and how your professors actually know you. I love all the opportunities you have here and the one on one attention you can get with your professor or coach. What do you like to do for fun? I like to go hang out with my teammates/friends either at their dorms or go out to a movie or dinner. I also love to go to Orioles games! What do you think sets Notre Dame above and/or apart from other schools? I think how nice the community is here sets this school apart. I definitely looked at my fair share of schools and when I was on this campus, it was a completely different atmosphere than the others. People are always saying “hi” to you or waving. I also think the classes here set Notre Dame above other schools. Your professors really challenge you to excel in class because they know how valuable a great education is in the work place. Who is your favorite professor or your favorite class? So far my favorite class was surprisingly my Winterim class, Elementary Reading Materials. My professor, Betty Kansler, was amazing and I learned so much in that class. It just makes me even more excited for all my other education classes! Do you like being in Baltimore ‘City’? I love being in Baltimore City. We are so close to absolutely everything.
