That’s Right! No longer will the Club Championships and Picnic be held on the same weekend. They will be held as separate events in 2004. The reason for the change is simple. We want more time to be together and play the game we all love. We want to get together in a casual setting and enjoy a day of disc golf, food, beverages and the company of fellow disc golfers. The day will start off with a competitive round for the Bag Tag participants. This will be a free, one round event with prizes given out at the end of the round. Following the round, food and beverages will be provided for all KCFDC members. A for fun doubles round will follow the picnic in the afternoon, assuming that enough people are in the mood for a fun round of disc golf. The Club Championships will be held on the first weekend of November. This will be a two day event where we will be playing the 4 main KC courses (Rosedale Up and Down, Swope, and Water Works). We will be playing 2 courses a day on each day of the weekend. Mark your Calendars! Come out! Enjoy some Golf! STAY INFORMED! Dog Park at Water Works? Rumors have it that an individual has donated the money to the parks department to have a dog park put in at Water Works Park. The proposed site is to the north of hole #12 in the open field. The dog park will be a fenced in area for people to bring their dogs and let them run and play without leashes. This should not effect the disc golf course at all, except for those few individuals who go WAY out and around to the right to get to the pin. The parks department is hoping that they will have enough money to put in a permanent shelter with restrooms. This will hopefully eliminate the problems with the out houses getting overturned, which is becoming a problem. More to follow.
Baskets for Down Under? Possibly! Jay Rivard and Pete Cashen are working on a proposal for the parks department to get new baskets for the Down Under Course. Their proposal includes selling off the current baskets and using the money raised to purchase brand new baskets! Stay tuned for details as the proposal gets worked out and the details are released to the public!
Baskets, Baskets, Everywhere! We’ve been hearing about these great new courses that are supposed to be going in the ground for the past couple of years now. Well, the wait is finally over! Baskets are now in for the Blue Valley and Cliff Drive disc golf parks! 18 baskets are now in the ground at Cliff Drive, in preparation for the upcoming Lance Stanton Doubles IV event, being held on September 5th! Come on out and enjoy the newest disc golf course in town! Many people have donated a lot of time an energy in getting this park ready for play (too many to list here), and there is much more to do. Keep your eyes and ears open for work days coming up to really get this course in tip-top shape. Or, you can just show up when you have free time and lend a hand! The preparation work is going on for the baskets at Blue Valley. Plans are to have everything ready for the 9 hole Kids Course to go in the ground by September 28th. The Dante Hall Foundation is sponsoring a playground that is going to be placed near the shelter by #1’s tee pad. Ground breaking is scheduled for September 28th with 15 – 20 Chiefs players to be in attendance to help put in the playground. This will have an effect on the layout of the big course, and work is being done to modify the layout so that it does not interfere with the playground. We will also be moving our ‘Base’ of operations to the shelter just to the East of #1’s tee and shelter. This will change the order of how the holes are played, and a couple holes will need to be changed, but most of the holes should remain unaffected. Again, keep your eyes and ears open for work days as we get this course in the ground. Some of you may have noticed that there are also some new baskets that have showed up at Swope. These are some nice looking powder coated Mach V baskets, and they are sweet! Many holes now have multiple baskets making the variations between the layouts for your rounds almost endless! Come see!
Cliff Drive is located north from I-70 on Prospect. Follow Prospect until it ends, continue forward into the park and look for baskets!
Course Update: WyCo There are many exciting things happening at WyCo park. Have you been lately? Come see the Concrete Tee Pads on EVERY hole! Big thanks need to go out to Kevin Montgomery and the Parks Department for making this happen! Other exciting updates to this course that are coming in the near future include tee signs for every hole, a marquee with the course lay-out, and new pin placements to keep the course fresh. The Parks and Recreation Department has been outstanding in working with the Club and Kevin Montgomery to get all these updates done! Come see and enjoy this beautiful park!
