[email protected] Kennesaw State’s Brian Bohannon Names Liam Klein Assistant Football Coach KENNESAW, Ga. (April 17, 2013) – Liam Klein, who has spent the past 11 seasons at Georgia Tech, including the last seven as director of player personnel, has been named an assistant coach at Kennesaw State, head football coach Brian Bohannon announced on Wednesday. His specific role with the team is to be determined. Klein becomes the second hire for Bohannon who was named the Owls’ first-ever head coach on Mar. 24. Grant Chesunt was hired as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach on Apr. 16. “In his time at Georgia Tech, Liam has had to do everything. He has been the recruiting coordinator, he’s handled camps, and has absolutely done everything in that football department,” Bohannon said. “He’s a huge asset to Kennesaw State right now and to Brian Bohannon for what he brings to the table. He’s going to be able, with us getting started, to bring a lot to the table. “Liam is excited about the opportunity to get on the field and coach, which is something he hasn’t been able to do, and I’m really excited about Liam being here,” Bohannon added. Klein directed Tech's coaching clinics, camps and other events while administering the Jackets' on-campus recruiting efforts and serving as the team's academic liaison. During his 11 seasons with the Yellow Jackets, Georgia Tech made 10 bowl appearances, including the 2012 Hyundai Sun Bowl, a 21-7 victory over USC. "This is an incredible time for Kennesaw State University and I am honored that Coach Bohannon has given me the opportunity to be member of this staff,” Klein said. “My wife and I are very excited to join the Owl family and look forward to building something special here.” Before being promoted in 2007, Klein served as a graduate assistant for three seasons, working with the Yellow Jackets' nationally-ranked defense. In addition to preparing scouting reports and coordinating the scout team, he helped coach linebackers in 2006 after assisting with the defensive line in 2004-05. During his three seasons as a graduate assistant, Georgia Tech's defense ranked in the top 30 in the nation in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense and pass efficiency defense. Klein originally came to Georgia Tech prior to the 2003 season and spent six months as assistant director of football operations before moving to the coaching staff. Klein also has two years of coaching experience at the NCAA FCS level, serving as outside linebackers and safeties coach for Harvard in 2002, and defensive line coach at Lafayette College in 2001. A three-year starter on the offensive line for Monmouth University, Klein earned a bachelor’s degree from Monmouth in education and interdisciplinary in history and political science in 2001. A native of Norwood, NJ, Klein and his wife, Katie, reside in Smyrna, Ga.
