2011 SIAC Football All-Conference & All-Academic Teams Announced ATLANTA, Ga. (November 14, 2011) —The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announces the 2011 SIAC Football All-Conference team as voted by the SIAC Football Coaches’ Association. The 2011 team is led by SIAC Player of the Year David Carter of Morehouse College, SIAC Offensive Player of the Year Stanley Jennings of Albany State University, and SIAC Defensive Player of the Year Jamarkus Gaskins of Albany State University. Kentucky State had four student-athletes named to the First Team Offense (Raphael Amey, Jared Garrett, Jessie Mitchell, Jovan Washington), one to the First Team Special Teams (Keith Massey), one to the Second Team Offense (Jerrel Noland), one to the Second Team Defense (Massey), and two to the Second Team Special Teams (Amey and Cade Berryman). The Thorobreds also had one student-athlete named to this year’s SIAC All-Academic Team. Amey led the Thorobred offense with 1,038 receiving yards on 68 catches, averaging 103.8 yards per game (10th in the nation) and 15.3 yards per catch. Massey led the Breds’ special teams efforts this season, breaking the Circle City Classic record for most return yards by an individual (243) and combining his efforts with Amey to break the Classic record for most return yards by a team (266). Massey finished the year with 644 total kick return yards (31st in the nation), 20 tackles and three interceptions. Garret and Mitchell led the KSU offensive line, blocking for an offense that produced 3,920 total offensive yards, including two student-athletes that rushed for over 500 yards each. Washington ended his senior year with 168 yards receiving on 20 catches. Noland, the team’s first-string quarterback ended the 2011 campaign completing 194 of 324 passes for 2,294 yards. His 254.89 passing yards per game ranks 23rd in the nation. Carter, a native of Marietta, GA, leads the SIAC in rushing and scoring with 1,495 yards (149.5 yards per game) and 19 touchdowns (114 points), respectively, both of which currently rank fourth nationally in Division II. The 5-10, 225-pound junior averaged 6.4 yards per carry, which leads the SIAC, on 235 attempts while also catching four passes for 47 yards. This season, Carter, a two-time All-SIAC first team selection, set a new NCAA Division II record for most rushing yards in a half with 251. Rounding out this year’s honorees for KSU is SIAC All-Academic Team selection, Deshon Floyd. He has maintained a 3.89 grade point average while amassing 15 tackles in seven games played.
