Kettering University Intramural Sports Racquetball Rules 1.)
SCORE: -The server is the only one who can score points. -If the receiver successfully scores, the roles are reversed (ie – the receiver becomes the server).
2.)
SERVICE -A serve may be made at any point between the two solid, horizontal lines. The ball must be bounced once on the floor and then hit underhanded against the front wall. The serve must then bounce behind the solid lines. If the serve is fault, the player will have one more opportunity; If the second service is fault, it is a double-fault, and the player must forfeit their service.
3.)
TYPES OF FAULTS a.) Short – The serve’s first bounce occurs before it has crossed both solid, horizontal lines; the serve is fault if it touches the lines whatsoever. b.) Long – The serve hits the back wall before it has bounced once. c.) Ceiling – The serve may not hit the ceiling during service. d.) Two Walls – The serve hits both of the side walls before it has bounced once. e.) Foot Faults – A foot fault is when the server steps behind or beyond the service zone (ie – between the two solid lines). Foot faults occur in two different ways: a. Behind – If the server’s back foot steps over the back line even a little bit, the serve is fault. b. Beyond – If the serve’s front foot steps over the front line completely, the serve is fault. c. The server may step behind or beyond once the ball has made contact with the front wall. f.) 10-second Violations – Once a point has been made, the server has 10-seconds to initiate play. If the server stalls the game, it is a fault. The server may initiate play at any given time so long as the receiver is ready. The receiver may only indicate that he is not ready if his racquet is held in the air or if his back is completely turned around towards the server. g.) Receiving Line Violations – the receiver must stay behind the dashed, horizontal line during service. The receiver may only attack the ball when the ball has either bounced once or crossed the dashed line. Receiving line violations are automatic points. h.) Side Outs – During the serve if the ball hits anything other than the front wall first, or if the serve goes out of play, it is an automatic double-fault.
