This grant is a 1:1 matching equipment grant for Elementary Schools that organize a Kids Tennis Club. The USTA Southern School Tennis Subcommittee will make an equipment purchase equal to the dollar amount a school spends for tennis equipment for its Kids Tennis Club through the USTA’s equipment discount website. The school will determine the tennis equipment that it would like the Southern School Tennis Subcommittee to purchase. On the following page, provide the following information:    

List the specific tennis equipment you would like the School Tennis Subcommittee to purchase for your Kids Tennis Club. List the number of participants you expect to join the club the first year. Describe how often the club will meet, location of club meetings, and other details. Describe your school’s plans to connect the Kids Tennis Club with other USTA programming such as Jr. Team Tennis, School Tennis Festivals, etc.

Kids Tennis Clubs are typically on-going throughout the school year and have the following characteristics:   

An after-school or intramural program similar to a chess club, running club, etc. Can be organized at a school, park, youth center, or tennis facility Offers a mix of supervised and structured play opportunities, including:  Recess, lunchtime and “open gym” formats (supervised play)  Team matches, ladder play, fun mixers & play rotations (structured play)  Field trips to high school/college matches, pro tournaments, and events  Play exchanges with other Kids Clubs  Participation in community Tennis Play Days  Instruction can be included, but the major emphasis is on play  Tennis Club organizers can be teachers, coaches, parents or volunteers (e.g. retirees, league players, college students).
