Washka and their 2015 Bike MS Buckeye Breakaway. The Spiritual Aims Committee made this donation. A thank you note from Caitlyn Blecha for our donation to the Licking County 4-‐H Camp Scholarship Fund. As a result of this donation she is able to be a camp counselor for a third time. This donation was by the Agriculture Committee. We have donated to the 4H around $1500 divided among several 4H activities. Please read Caitlyn’s letter on page 2.
COMMITTEES 1. Young Children Priority One donated $300 to the Look Up Center, and the Yes Club in Newark. Ben Spencer and Charlene Lossing are co-‐chairs. 2. The Tent set up at the Harford Fair went well. Only one return to the K. Barn was necessary. Somehow the stakes were not counted correctly, they were short. Maybe it was the new math. There was a good turn out of members to set up the tents. 3. Tim LePontois mentioned the Granville Blues Fest will be on Sept. 5th and we will be setting up the tent, chairs, and tables. An e-‐mail will be sent out later. 4. Tim LePontois said we will have an interclub at the Div. 10E Council meeting at Blendon Woods on Aug. 25th in Columbus. Tim mentioned he does not remember having any interclub from other clubs in the Div. visiting us. The exception was the Pres. Party in which Newark club had an interclub. I agree with Tim’s comments. What should we do? I feel there are two options: 1) Nothing or 2) encourage interclubs by our club attending their clubs. Our choice to make. 5. Dave Thomas: this is the last report on “Shoes for H.O.P.E.”. The shoes we have collected will be delivered to Columbus on Wed the 12th of Aug. PROGRAM Lindsay Moore Chair of the Scholarship Committee gave a review of the scholarship application procedure and discussed Kayla King’s application and how she was selected to receive this year’s Kiwanis scholarship. The process starts in January by Lindsay contacting the High School. The applications are to be submitted in Feb. or March. The students may not get the applications to us until mid April. Once the applications are received, Lindsay collates them and distributes them to the committee members for their review. The applicants should list their school activates, volunteer activities, sports, clubs, etc. along with what college they plan to attend and their major. They are to submit two (2) essays with one being about Kiwanis and our activities.

Monday News page 2 of 2 Program Cont. The students then meet with the committee for a 20 – 30 minute interview. Kayla will be attending Ohio University. She plans to major in biology with her goal of entering the medical field in Pediatrics. She ha been influenced by her mother who is a registered nurse and the work her mother has done over the years in the medical field. Kayla’s activities have involved working with kids outside of the academics area, Key Club, drama, orchestra, cross-‐ country, and track and field. She joined Key Club in her sophomore year and served as secretary of the Key Club during her senior year. The committee was very impressed with her essay about Kiwanis. Most students are familiar with what we do, because of the 4th of July Celebration. Kayla wrote about our Kiwanis International Eliminate Project and how it improves the medical well-‐being of the mother and their babies who are protected from tetanus with the maternal/neo natal shot. Lindsay read the essay to our members at Mondays meeting. Unfortunately I did not ask for a copy of the essay so I could have included it in the Monday News newsletter for all of you to read.
*****Special Note:
On July the 27th the board of directors changed our regular meeting night August 24th (Monday) to August 25th (Tuesday). This will be a Division 10E council meeting at Blendon Woods Metro Park in Columbus. Details will be sent out before the meeting. The cost of dinner will be $15.00. Mark your calendars as a reminder and plan to attend the last Div. Council meeting for Lt. Gov. Jerry Miller’s year. 50/50 drawing winner -‐ Tim LePontois no jackpot but Tim gets a free Kiwanis meal. What is an interclub? An interclub is when a min. of 4 members of our club attend an event of any club in the Kiwanis Family. The Kiwanis Family consists of: 1) Local Clubs, 2) International Events, 3) Key Clubs, 4) Aktion Clubs, 5) Division Events, 6) K Kids Clubs, 7) Circle K Clubs, 8) Golden K Clubs, 9) District Events, 10) Builders Clubs, and 11) Internet Clubs. Who makes up an Interclub? An Interclub for a club of thirty (30) or more members requires four (4) club members. OR Three (3) club members plus one (1) of the following Kiwanis officers: 1) Lt. Governor, 2) District Officers, 3) Division Officers, or 4) International Officers. A club can only use one of the above officers to qualify as an Interclub.
