Kokoda Spirit Swim Club Kokoda Spirit Swim Club is aligned with the Townsville Grammar School. The club embraces the philosophies and expectations of the School exists to provide its members with both social and competitive swimming opportunities.
KOKODA SPIRIT HANDBOOK The purpose of this handbook is to provide parents of swimmers an introduction to Kokoda Spirit Swim Club. This handbook is intended as a source of information and guidance for potential members. The contents of this handbook will hopefully help answer some of your questions about our club.
ABOUT KOKODA SPIRIT SWIM CLUB Kokoda Spirit Swimming Club is a recently formed swimming club (2012) located at Townsville Grammar School and the Kokoda Memorial Pool. It prides itself on looking after the competitive needs of swimmers, by providing quality coaching and support to allow each individual to achieve their goals

At Kokoda Spirit we encourage diversity, sportsmanship and commitment, as well as providing a platform for self improvement.

KOKODA SPIRIT SWIM CLUB COACHING DIRECTOR Glenn Beringen [email protected] The Kokoda Spirit Swim Club program has been developed by Personal Best Aquatics Director Glenn Beringen. Glenn has achieved international success and reputation as a platinum-level coach, triple Olympian and Olympic Silver medallist. Glenn guided one of Australia’s greatest athletes, Petria Thomas to three Olympic gold medals at the Athens Games in 2004. He has also coached a host of elite swimmers including Sarah Ryan, Craig Stevens, Ryan Mitchell and Phil Rogers to international success. In 2014, Glenn was appointed head coach for the Australian Youth Team for the Oceania Championships, the National Youth Camp and the Junior Pan Pacific Championships. KOKODA SPIRIT SWIM CLUB MEMBERSHIP POLICY - 2015/2016 Season Competitive Member Criteria: Must attend regular training sessions in one of following: a. Development Squad b. Junior Squad c. Senior Squad d. Kokoda Learn-to-Swim Lessons 2. Must be registered and financial with Swimming Queensland 3. Must be registered and financial with Kokoda Spirit Swim Club Eligible: a) Kokoda Spirit Swim Club Nights b) NQSA, SQ & SA Competitions Dolphin Member Criteria: 1. Must be 7 years and under(free membership) or 8 (half price membership) at time of registration 2. Must be able to swim 25m Freestyle (7yr old) , 50m freestyle (8yrs old) 3. Must attend regular training sessions in one of following: a. Development Squad b. Kokoda Learn-to-Swim Lessons 4. Must be registered with Swimming Queensland 5. Must be registered with Kokoda Spirit Swim Club Eligible: a) Kokoda Spirit Swim Club Nights b) NQSA Competitions Recreational Member Criteria: 1. Must be a sibling of a Competitive Member 2. Must be registered and financial with Swimming Queensland 3. ABOUT THE DOLPHIN MEMBERSHIP Under the Dolphin membership program children aged 7 and under will be eligible for free membership and children aged 8; half price membership. All under 7 competitors swim under the Rule tolerance rule, which means they cannot be disqualified for incorrect stroke, starts and finishes. CONSIDERING JOINING? To be eligible to join Kokoda Spirit Swim Club your child must be aged between 6-18yrs. They will be required to attend at least 1 learn to swim lessons a week at PBA Kokoda, or attend at least one (1) squad training a week at the Townsville Grammar Pool.
