The Structure of the Strategic Plan In fulfilling our mission and realizing our vision, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Kutztown University must establish a planning structure that directs our actions, and in so doing establishes a series of operational paths and measurable outcomes that can define and document how effectively we are fulfilling our mission and realizing our vision. The first step toward this end is the definition of thematic Goals that concretely define how we intend to work toward fulfilling our mission and vision. Goals are the first level of the structure of the strategic plan. Each of the thematic goals are further refined into a series of Strategic Objectives which define how various academic and non-academic units on campus can direct their efforts to reach our thematic Goals. The Strategic Objectives can be further refined into a series of Initiatives that focus specific actions fostering the achievement of the Strategic Objectives. The success of an initiative can be measured by the attainment of one or more Desired Outcomes.
