Galactic Glossary JAKKU

KYLO REN ARRIVES A desert planet located in a remote section of the Western Reaches, Jakku is known for the Wheel Races, a fierce athletic competition. There are also mining operations throughout the planet, as well as native industries such as the brewing of an alcoholic beverage called Knockback Nectar. Niima Outpost, a trading post similar to Tatooine’s Mos Eisley, is the major settlement on Jakku, guarded by the mysterious Constable Zuvio.

Apprentice of Supreme Leader Snoke, Kylo Ren is also a member of the landing party on Jakku. When he orders that all the civilians in the village be killed, FN-2187 refuses to fire, his first act of rebellion. Kylo, however, is more concerned with finding the map, which Poe Dameron has entrusted to his droid BB-8.

ATTACK OF THE STORMTROOPERS

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

A cadre of First Order stormtroopers, led by Captain Phasma, arrives on Jakku hoping to find the same map as Poe Dameron. With ruthless efficiency, they lay waste to the village in which Lor San Tekka resides. Among the stormtroopers is FN-2187, who gets his first taste of battle.

KYLO REN

Impulsive and ruthless, Kylo Ren is lost in darkness and hate. Once a Jedi apprentice, he betrayed his master Luke Skywalker, turning to the dark side. He joined a mysterious organization called the Knights of Ren, took a new name and became the apprentice of Master Snoke—the supreme and enigmatic leader of the First Order. Snoke trained Kylo Ren to use the power of the Force to inflict pain, invade the minds of his victims and kill them with no regret. Kylo considers himself immune to the light and is ready to prove it at any cost. He is also obsessed with Darth Vader and keeps the deformed mask of the fallen Sith Lord in his chamber, talking to it as if it were alive.

DID YOU KNOW?

After the fall of the Empire, the First Order had to completely revise its stormtrooper training programs to include guerrilla tactics and counter-insurgency maneuvers, acknowledging that their task was no longer to maintain power, but rather to regain it by whatever nefarious means necessary.
