What is the Kyoto? What is an Ofuro? “Ofuro” is a Japanese-style deep soaking tub that allows full immersion and relaxation in soothing clean hot water. The Kyoto is a beautiful modern soaking tub hand-crafted with the famous aromatic Hinoki wood (in the cypress family). The simple beauty and traditional design combine with the extra depth to offer the bather the luxury of a spa in their own home. The lemon/ginger aroma of the Hinoki wood fills the air and is believed by many to have health benefits. How deep is it? What is the water depth? Very deep! The Kyoto is 22" deep which is almost twice as deep as typical bathtubs. This allows a relaxed posture with hot water over your shoulders. How many gallons needed to fill the Kyoto? About 75 gallons. Is the Kyoto big enough for a large adult? Yes, because of the extra depth it is comfortable for adults up to 6’6 and 250 lbs. For larger or smaller tubs contact the manufacturer. How hard is the Kyoto to install? The Kyoto is quite simple to install. The tub is free-standing and the drain and overflow hardware is included. Installation instructions are included with the tub. How does the drain work? The Kyoto includes a “Press-flo” drain made of solid brass with Chrome finish. To open simply press on one side and it will flip open. Press down flat to close. Can I use bath salts or essential oils? Yes. Used in moderation, bath salts and essential oils are fine. Do they leak? Absolutely NOT! Zen Bathworks ofuro tubs are guaranteed water tight. The tub walls and floors are vacuum pressed and engineered to create a completely stable and incredibly strong tub design. Other manufacturers use less reliable methods. How long will the tub last? The Kyoto tub should last for 20 years or more. Is this a UPC listed tub? No. Is the Hinoki wood sustainably harvested? Yes. Where does the Hinoki wood come from? Yes, the outside of the tub has several coats of an oil finish and a protective wax to give a soft satin glow. The inside surface is left natural so the Hinoki aroma can be enjoyed.
