SWA’s master plan for the existing US Navy installation in Monterey, California included a new road and park system overlaid into the existing street network to enhance connectivity to community services and improve the overall livability for the families stationed there. By consolidating and adding to the existing service network, a pedestrian-friendly town center was created as the new heart of the La Mesa Village. Retention swales were designed into new medians and open space as part of an on-site water retention program.
