Shoeboxes Packed With Love Thanksgiving Pie Fundraiser

By Marsha Slick

Are you making your menu for Thanksgiving, yet? When you do, why not put several delicious pies on it? And, best of all, you won’t have to do the cooking! Leave it up to the annual Ladies of Hope Thanksgiving Pie Fundraiser. On the first three Sundays of November, LOH members will be selling pies after all Masses. This year, we will be offering just two flavors to make your choice easier: apple and pumpkin. The Little Apple Pastry Shop is once again providing these scrumptious pies which are homemade right at the shop in Aldie. You will be able to purchase pies for pickup on November 26, or you can donate a pie that will be delivered to Christ House, Missionaries of Charity, and House of Mercy. Each 10 inch pie will be sold for $18. Our goal this year is to sell 100 of each flavor, so be thinking of how many you will buy to support our fundraiser. Just imagine the time you’ll save for other activities on Thanksgiving Day, such as Mass, prayer, and family hugs!

"Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ." -Samaritan's Purse The Ladies of Hope project for our October 20th meeting was received with great joy! We all had such fun buying the gifts for our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. I overheard one of the ladies say that her grandchildren were older, and how rewarding it was to be able to purchase gifts for young children who will truly appreciate the outpouring of love. Well said! As usual, the women of the parish were more than generous with their time and treasure. We filled six long tables with donated items and then spent time filling each shoebox with age appropriate tangible gifts...and with the priceless gifts of love and prayers for each child who will receive a box. Our grand total of 57 boxes will be delivered to the donation checkpoint on November 18. A sincere thank you to each of you who made this project so rewarding! Somewhere around the world, a child will smile because of you.

LADIES OF HOPE

November Rosary for Departed Souls “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

The month of November is traditionally set aside to remember our departed loved ones. Our Lady of Hope parish is honoring their memory by inviting all to come to church on Sunday evenings at 7:30 PM in November to pray the rosary.

We pray for the souls of these parishioners who died in the past year: Larry John Gebhardt Donetha Crist Bullock Jeremy Christian Tabones Marelene Simone Kennedy Mary Louise Mitchell Margaret M. Baumann Joseph Matthew Angel Richard Paul Schmitt Robert Yosaitis Starr Freeman Murray Patricia VanBelleghem Teresa Ayson Jumat Eldo Merlin Foss Heide Brodie

Suzanne Yerks and Sabine Morson were instrumental in arranging this weekly devotion for November. On November 10, and on the remaining Sundays in this month, you can write your loved one’s name on a slip of paper and place it in a basket next to the altar before the recitation of the rosary.

We pray for all our loved ones who rest in eternal peace.

Fair Trade Christmas Shopping Did you know that Catholic Relief Services is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States? Started in 1943 as a response to the devastation of WWII in Europe, it is the official overseas relief and development agency of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. And, since the 1950s, CRS has provided emergency disaster relief to Asia, Africa, and Latin America, too.

So, what does this have to do with Christmas shopping? Well, CRS has a partnership with SERRV—Sales Exchange for Refugee Rehabilitation and Vocation—to promote fair trade by selling goods made by artisans living on these continents. According to the encyclopedia, fair trade is an organized social movement that aims to help producers in developing countries to make better
