Congratulations on the birth of your new baby! We rejoice with you that god has blessed your home with the addition of a precious little bundle of joy. The purpose of this brochure is to acquaint you with lakeside’s ministry of baby dedication and to answer any questions you may have regarding this awesome privilege and responsibility.
Baby Dedication” is primarily a challenge to and act of commitment by the parents and church to make provision for the spiritual training of a child so that upon reaching an age of responsibility the child will be prepared to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Baby Dedication should never be identified with the unbiblical practice of infant baptism. The scriptures never teach infant baptism nor is there direct evidence setting precedent for it within the Word. The scriptures do expressly teach a “believer’s baptism”. A baptism by immersion in water by which the convert can publicly express repentance and confession of faith in Christ. (Mt. 28:19; Mk. 16:16; Acts 2:38)
Much of the practice of infant baptism came about as a consequence of the false notion that babies/children that were not baptized would be doomed to hell. Scriptures teach that infants/children that die before
reaching an age of accountability automatically go to heaven. (i.e. 2 Sam. 12:23; Lk. 18:16). Therefore it must be remembered again that baby dedication is not a sacrament imparting grace to the child, but a charge specifically to the parents to raise that child in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
Where baby dedication is of special benefit to the child is in the act of the parents, pastor, and congregation agreeing together in the name of Jesus for God's blessing and protection upon the child.
One or both of the parents who present their child(ren) for baby dedication must be born again believers in Jesus Christ. They must be active attenders of
