Say  it  carefully,  quickly  and  clearly:   Getting  your  players'  attention   “1)  Start  with  Discipline

By  Doug  Lemov

I  define  discipline  as  teaching  students  the  right  way  to  do   something.  Never  mind  living  in  a  place  where  attentiveness  is  the   expectation,  it’s  a  huge  assumption  that  someone  in  kids’  lives  has   sat  them  down  and  showed  them  how  to  pay  attention.”   For  the  entire  article,  please  visit  the  Lakeville  SC  website  (Coaches   tab).

ACTIVITY   OF  THE   MONTH   Windows  Warmup

  1. ½  players  on  the  edge  of  the  grid;  each  have  a  ball   2. ½  players  inside  the  grid;  they  do  not  have  a  ball   3. Players  inside  of  grid  check  to  (move  toward)  player   on  edge  of  the  grid   4. Players  on  edge  of  the  grid  pass  ball  to  player  checking   to  (moving  toward)  him/her   5. 30-‐40  second  intervals;  then  switch  positions  (inside-‐ outside)     This  activity  provides  the  framework  for  a  warmup  activity   which  allows  for  players  to  stay  active  and  get  many   touches.  Coaches  can  work  on  various  aspects  of  the   game,  by  adjusting  the  activity.  Here  are  a  few  examples:     • Receive  the  ball  with  outside  of  foot   • Return  the  ball  in  two-‐touches   • Receive  the  ball,  turn  and  explode  into  space   • Take  balls  out  of  the  air  (players  on  edge  start  with   ball  in  hand)
