Lakeville South High School Bowling Club - 2017 About High School Bowling in Minnesota Minnesota High School Bowling is very similar to high school football, basketball, baseball, and other popular high school athletics. A group of students from a high school unite to make a team that will represent their school and their community. The primary difference between those sports and bowling is the governing body for bowling is the Bowling Proprietors Association of Minnesota (BPAM) whereas the governing body for most other high school sports is the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). The BPAM rules, however, are modeled after those of the MSHSL. Learn more about the league at www.mhsb.org Last fall (2016), the co-ed league had 120 varsity and 134 junior varsity teams (1,550+ students) competing throughout the state.

Bowling practice (including use of shoes and bowling ball) is free, donated by Don Speiker, owner of Lakeville Family Bowl. Without the generosity of Don, this program would most likely not exist at Lakeville South. Please make an effort to patronize Lakeville Family Bowl whenever possible in an effort to show support and gratitude for Don's generous giving to our bowling club. Bowling matches are also free, donated by the bowling center hosting each event. Practices Mondays & Thursdays 3:30-5:00 pm. Starting: Wed. 8/16/17. No practice on 8/17/17. No Practice on Labor Day (9/4/17). (LFB is hosting their 30th annual Customer Appreciation Night on 8/17/17 – Stop on down!) Transportation provided from LSHS to McGuire MS via shuttle bus. Bowling center is within walking distance from MMS. Bowlers are expected to be at practice if you want to participate in matches. However, I will work with any member who may have some scheduling conflicts. Bowling is about fun, not rigid schedules; nevertheless, it is a team sport requiring players to train/practice together for the success of all. Coaches Head Coach: Tom Paider - (email:

Matches Minnesota High School Bowling uses the Baker system. Five bowlers each bowl two frames to complete a single game. It is a very exciting format for both players and spectators. The NCAA also uses this format for inter-collegiate matches. All varsity teams and JV teams in the conference bowl at the same location (respectively) on the same day (Saturdays). We compete directly against two opponents, bowling a ‘best of five’ Baker game match against each of two opposing teams. Metro South Conference 1. Apple Valley 2. Farmington 3. Lakeville North 4. Lakeville South 5. Northfield
6. Bloomington Jefferson 7. Bloomington Kennedy 8. Burnsville
9. Eagan 10. Rosemount
Competing We expect to have both a varsity and junior varsity team this season, and can roster 8 players per team for each match. If we have more than 16 players in the club, some will need to be "cut" each week to meet roster requirements, unless our participation numbers allow us to field multiple Junior Varsity (JV) team. Varsity - we will play to win, which means the roster will be set by the discretion of the coach with the sole purpose of winning the match - no different than any other Lakeville High School Varsity sports team. Junior Varsity (JV) - the team roster will be set by the coach with a softer approach toward winning with more of an emphasis on player participation and development.
