In order for participation in an intramural contest each player must present one of the following ids and print their name on the score sheet: o LU-Beaumont Students = Cardinal One Card o LIT- ID Students = Validated Student ID Faculty/Staff = Employee ID (must have paid Rec Sports membership fee) Team captains are responsible for informing their teammates of the game schedules and of all Intramural Sports governing rules and regulations, eligibility of team players, teams and fan’s behavior before, during and after games, and equipment loaned to them for IM games such as team jerseys and balls. GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME! Sportsmanship is an important part of Intramural Sports. In order to encourage proper conduct before, during, and after the scheduled contest, officials, supervisors, and intramural staff will make decisions on whether to warn, penalize, or eject players, teams, and/or spectators for unsportsmanlike conduct. The team captain is responsible for the actions of any player on his/her team and for spectators directly related to that team. The conduct of all players and spectators before and after the game is as important as conduct during the game. Participants’ sportsmanship can affect your team’s eligibility for playoffs.
PLAY AREA: The game is played on racquetball courts or in Soccer Arena of the Sheila Umphrey Recreation Center. Neutral Zone: A player may advance to the opposite penalty line of the court but no further. Crossing the line completely is OUT! However, players may reach over to retrieve a ball, but may not touch the floor on opponent’s side. EQUIPMENT: a) Players must wear proper attire (tennis shoes, shirts etc.). b) With 6 players in Racquetball Courts or 8 players in Soccer Arena, 6 dodge balls will be used per court. TEAMS: A team consists of 6 or 8 (see above) players on the court. A team may play with fewer than the max (that would be a disadvantage as there are fewer players to eliminate). Extra Players: No more than max players per team may be on the court at a time. If a team has additional players, they must wait outside the racquetball court or in the team boxes for Soccer Arena during a match and can substitute in before the next match starts. PLAY: a) Six dodge balls will be placed in the center at the start of each game. b) If a player is hit by a “fly ball”, before it hits the floor and after being thrown by a player on the opposing team that player is out. c) If a player catches a “fly ball”, the thrower is out. ALSO, the catching team returns an eliminated player to their team. Players come back into the game in the order they were eliminated. d) A ball deflected by a held ball, whether caught or not, does not result in player elimination. • If the ball used as a shield is dropped then player is out.
e) A ball rebounding off a “catch” attempt may be caught before touching the floor by any in bounds player on the “hit” player’s team. Result: the thrower is out and the catching team returns an eliminated player. It may not hit a wall/backboard etc. before caught or the hit player is out. f) A ball rebounding off a wall, backboard etc. does not eliminate a player. g) Aiming and throwing at a player’s head will result in the thrower being out and player hit will be safe. • If a player ducks when evading a throw and they get hit in the head, then they are out. i) If a ball bounces off two players and hits the ground or wall, only the first player hit is out. j) When all the players of one team have been eliminated, the other team wins that game k) If time expires before the game ends; the team with the most players on the court is the winner. SAFETY: Players may not lift or support their teammates in catching a throw etc. AREA OF ELIMINATED PLAYERS: a) Eliminated players on each court will form lines in their side of the court in the team boxes. Keep in order of being eliminated. Re-enter on a “caught” ball in same order eliminated. b) Eliminated players may not participate in the game.
