Land Trust Alliance: 2018 Farm Bill Recommendations The Nutritional Benefits of the Land Support FMLFPP and FINI Programs Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program (FMLFPP) The Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program (FMLFPP) is a grant program administered by USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). The purpose of FMLFPP is to increase domestic consumption of, and access to, locally and regionally produced agricultural products and to develop new market opportunities for farm and ranch operations serving local markets. This is achieved by providing outreach, training and technical assistance to assist in the development, improvement and expansion of domestic farmers markets, roadside stands, community-supported agriculture programs, agritourism activities and other direct producer-to-consumer market opportunities. We urge Congress to maintain mandatory funding for FMLFPP at $33 million.
Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive Grant Program (FINI) The Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive (FINI) Grant Program supports projects to increase the purchase of fruits and vegetables among low-income consumers participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by providing incentives at the point of purchase. FINI projects present the opportunity to bring together stakeholders from the distinct parts of the food system and to foster understanding of how they might improve the nutrition and health status of participating households receiving incentives to purchase fruits and vegetables. FINI projects are also intended to address the development of effective and efficient technologies for benefit redemption systems that are replicable by other states and communities. We urge Congress to provide $100 million in mandatory funding for FINI.
