Perhaps you sent a lovely card or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a floral piece; if so, we saw it there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any friend could say. Perhaps you prayed a sincere prayer or came to pay a call. Perhaps you sang a cheerful song; if so, we heard it all. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any friend could say. Perhaps you prepared a tasty dish, or maybe furnished a car. Perhaps you rendered a service unseen, near at hand or from afar. Whatever you did to console our hearts, by word or deed or touch, whatever was the kindly part, we thank you, oh so very much. We just want to say Thank You. -The Family

Obituary

Hebrews 12:14 “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one would see the Lord.”

Laverne Johnson was born July 1, 1950, to the late Paul Hooper, Jr., and Carmen R. Hooper in Dallas, TX. On Friday, May 4, 2018, God elevated Laverne from earthly service to heavenly reward. She confessed Christ at an early age at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Laverne was educated in the DISD, where she attended James Madison High School. In 1970, she married Walter Johnson, Sr., and from that union came one child. Laverne loved the outdoors, planting, dancing and spending time with her family. She was employed with the Dallas Convention Center for ten years and later went to work for the Wilmer-Hutchins Independent School District at Bishop Heights Elementary School, in janitorial service, until taking ill. She also established a new life with William Earl, which lasted for 36 years. She had five step-children. Laverne enjoyed seeing her grand- and greatgrandchildren grow. Laverne is preceded in death by her father, Paul Hooper, Jr.; mother, Carmen R. Hooper; life partner, William M. Earl; sisters, Vera D. Caldwell, Louise Holt and Evelyn Goodman; brothers, Charles L. Hooper and Paul W. Hooper; one niece, Andrea White; two nephews, Clerus Bryant and Fredrick Williams; godsister, Sarah Peterson; and goddaughter, Renee Harper. She leaves to cherish: one daughter, Lisa Levy (Keith); five step-children, Kevin Earl (Keisha), Marcus Earl (LaCheryl), Patrick Earl, Kathie Earl and Lashanna Earl; four grandchildren, Tyrone Johnson (Jocylyn), Latoya Thomas (Joe), Eric Thomas and Dameion Crutchfield; a host of great-grandchildren; goddaughters, Shenickle, Pennie, Alta, April, Nicole, Trice, Katina, Michelle, Terrie and Sharlard; godsons, Walter, Jr., Tracy, Jermaine, Keith Polk, and Rodgerick Peterson; four sisters, Patricia Washington, Julie Tyler, Alneda Jones and Sharon Blair; three brothers, Alvin Hooper, Sr., Paul Blair and Nathan Taylor; godsisters, Joann Westbrooks, Linda Watson, ALice Mccoy, Patricia Garrett and Alice Robinson; special friend, Billy; and a host of other family members and friends.

To My Loving Mother I knew the day would come That you would depart from me. But it truly came too soon. I feel so lost for words.

I feel you’ve left me in the wilderness, I can’t even explain. I know that everything I did for you Wasn’t done in vain. There will be no more suffering and surely, no more pain. Now, just walk around Heaven all day God has your mind, soul and spirit. And Jesus has you wrapped up all in his wings. I loved you when I knew you Not while I was in your womb. It was ordained by God’s grace.
