One of the best things we can do is to share the Word with others. Everyone has a Bible, but how many have a thorough understanding of its message? This new course by Evelyn Laycock uses Barclay’s classic “Introducing the Bible” as the text. This advanced course focuses on the ministry of the lay speaker who either occasionally or regularly leads congregations, organizations, classes, or groups in Bible study. The ministry of leading others in Bible study is crucially important to the faith development of any Christian community. The purposes of this course are: To gain an understanding of the process by which the Old and New Testaments came to be the Bible we read today. To recognize the Bible as the inspired revelation of God through God’s relationship with people To gain appreciation for the value of questioning and positive critical evaluation as ways to grasp the Bible’s critical message and put it into practice. To learn how to study the Bible in order to gain the greatest understanding of the written word. To encounter the living God in the words of the Bible. To discover new insights that will enable us to be more effective leaders of Bible study. Led by Rev. Brian White, Superintendent of the Southeast District, UMC COMMUNICATING FOR A CHANGE - March 16 only This course utilizes the book, Communicating for a Change, by Andy Stanley. Seven concepts are identified which will simplify your approach to communication and transform your sermons, lessons, and presentations into powerful life-changing experiences for your listeners: .Determine your Goal º Pick A Point º Create A Map º Internalize the Message º Engage Your Audience º Find Your Voice º Start All Over Led by Nancy Low, SE District Director, Lay Servant Ministries
