[email protected] Lead Bank Community Art Wall Kansas City, MO To Whom It May Concern: I am currently a senior in the Sculpture Department at the Kansas City Art Institute. Your call for a design on the Lead Community Art Wall for Lead Bank is of great interest to me. Geology and nature are fundamental references for the work that I produce in the studio. This proposal offers a way for my work to translate to a digital process and enter the public realm. I’m including images for two possibilities that are somewhat abstracted while also possessing the capability to exist in space as an experience, just as nature does. This exterior banner installation piece is a space where I want people who are surrounded by an urban environment to be able to take a moment out of their day to have an unexpected encounter with these landscape influenced pieces. It is important that the banners provide a way to exist beyond the local conditions. I believe portraying something that is inspired by nature has a spiritual connotation and the capability to provide a pleasurable experience in a space that is normally experienced as a bank parking lot. From living here the past four years, the people I have come to know and observe in this urban environment are very busy and their life goes at a very fast pace. My art works’ origins are derived from contemplation. This sense of contemplation and respite seem beneficial in order for the community to be able to stop and take a breath. The vibrancy and bright colors in my work are abundant and apparent; this conveys celebration and joy. My goal for these banners is to provide the public with an effervescent design that causes them to stop and have a unique kind of encounter with this space. I hope to hear back from you, and I thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Elizabeth Dalton
