“WHY IS THIS CHURCH IMPORTANT TO ME” by Elsa Cano This church means a lot to me!!! This church is important to me because it is a refuge from my hectic life. It is not easy living in this modern age, connected to devices that hinder us and also stop us from feeling human; always connected to cellular devices, computers, computerized cars, computerized homes, etc. Please do not take me wrong, I am not against technological advances just against the misuse of them. Born in Mexico in a very closed and secured environment, I fell in love with the way Methodists celebrate God and their Christian faith. In every activity, there was an adult to supervise and keep the order, and also to teach us how to make the right decisions. Unfortunately, after I got married, I stopped attending church. No need to tell you, this is the greatest regret of my life. And so, 30 years ago, I started looking for what I was missing in life. I found 2 or 3 congregations (Presbyterian, Lutheran and Baptist) but none of them helped with my spiritual search. Finally, 10+ years ago, I found FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF GLENDALE and Thanks be to God, I am still an active member. Our congregation is not perfect but we are trying and praying that sometime soon we will be able to get along and always remember 1 Corinthians 1: 10-16. My responsibility is and will be to accept authority; respect our leader’s decisions, always help with an open heart, love and pray for my enemies, welcome people from different countries, different religions, different genders, different ages, different races and love them the way Our Father in Heaven loves me!!
Campus Beautification March 24, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., we will be readying the Sanctuary for Palm Sunday and cleaning the exterior grounds. Please join us for a few hours of mulching, raking and gardening.

Update Capital Fund Campaign
As of Friday morning, March 9, 2018 pledges and contributions to the Capital Fund Campaign total $214,664. We have received pledges and gifts from 97 “giving units” which may represent a single person, a couple, or a family. We are all invited to support this campaign to fund the renovation of the campus including an elevator, handicap restroom, ramps, an open plaza at Broadway and Kenwood, and a scattering garden and columbarium. Please remember that the Foundation is eager to match giving on a 2 to 1 basis; that is for every $2.00 given, the Foundation will add another $1.00 to the total. With this matching grant added, we now have a campaign total of $321,996.
