Healthy ME! The basic needs Look at the pictures below. These are things that we need every day to grow up happy and healthy. What do you think each picture is showing? Why do you need each one? How would you feel if you didn’t have one of these things?
Did you know ... • Smiling at someone is the simplest way of making them feel happy. • When you sleep your brain is really busy. It is going over all the things that you have been doing during the day. Your brain has to sort out which bits are important to remember. • You need at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. Exercise can help to put you in a better mood.
EXPLORE! Exploring some of the basic needs EXERCISE Exercise is great for all parts of our body. • Which body parts improve with exercise? • Can you describe how these body parts get better when we exercise? • Draw an activity that helps your body get fit and healthy.
SLEEP Sleeping helps us to feel good and gets us ready for the day ahead. • Draw a picture of someone who has had a good night's sleep. • Draw someone who has not had enough sleep. • Describe the differences between the two pictures you have drawn.
EATING Food gives our body energy to do all kinds of things like run, think, play and learn. Eating healthy food helps us to fight off sickness, keeps our bones strong and keeps our brain alert and active. • What does it mean to have ‘energy’? • Draw or cut out pictures of the food that helps to keep you healthy.
AROHA We all need to feel loved and happy. • How do you show aroha to the people in your family? • What do you do to make sure everyone in your class has a great day and feels happy?
