10 Fabric Central® Chevron & Dot Fabric Quarters 1 spool ½" gray satin ribbon (single-sided) 1 pkg. 5/8" gray buttons (10 buttons used) 1 spool variegated thread 8 ½" x 11" paper Chopstick or blunt pencil Safety pin Scissors Basic sewing supplies Sewing machine Iron and pressing surface
Instructions Read all instructions before beginning project. Do not pre-wash fabrics. Press fabrics with a dry iron on cotton setting before cutting. Remove selvages. Use a ¼" seam allowance and sew fabrics with right sides together (RST) unless otherwise noted. Press seams in the direction of arrows. wof = width of fabric
1. Make the pennant pattern: Fold paper in half widthwise matching corners and edges so that it measures 4 ¼" x 11"; burnish crease firmly (Dia. A).
Finished care instructions: Dust lightly as needed.
2. Mark 3 ½" down from the top corner opposite the folded edge. Draw lines from both the top and bottom centers to the mark on the edge of the paper. Leaving the paper folded, cut along the drawn lines (Dia. B). Note: A kite shape will result when the pattern is unfolded.

3. Next, fold the top point down 3 ½" matching center creases. Crease top fold firmly to make a triangular shape (Dia. C). Note: These creased lines will be used to position the pattern on the chevron fabric when cutting pennants.
10. To make a yoyo, thread a hand stitching needle with about 24" of thread and knot the ends together securely.

4. Open pattern flat and mark a 2 ½" opening in the center of one long edge for turning pennants right side out (Dia. D).

5. With wrong side of fabric facing up, use the pennant pattern to trace and cut two from each of the 10 fabrics. Mark opening for turning on wrong side. Tip: Align the vertical and horizontal creases with the chevron print, pin in place then cut around the pattern.
11. With the wrong side of the circle facing up, fold over a narrow hem and sew with ¼" long stitches through both layers close to the folded edges (Dia. E). Continue folding and stitching until you arrive back at the knot. Pull the thread to gather the outside edge of the circle tightly to the center. Knot thread securely and clip end neatly (Dia. F). Repeat with all 4" circles to make 10 yoyos. 12. Center a yoyo that matches the front of the pennant on the flap; pin. Sew through the center of the yoyo through all layers to form a casing at the top edge. Stitch a button in the center of the yoyo. Repeat for all pennants. 13. To determine the ribbon length, lay out pennants in desired order, measure and add additional length to each end for hanging; cut ribbon. Attach a safety pin to one end of ribbon and feed it through the top casing of pennants in desired order. Tack the ribbon on each side of the pennant. Use ends to hang banner.
6. Trace around the 4" circle template on the wrong side of each print. Cut out on marked line for the yoyos. Set circles aside until Step 11. 7. Pair up one dot and one chevron for each pennant as shown in the photo or as desired. Pin RST and starting with a backstitch at the lower end of the marked opening. Using the variegated thread in both the bobbin and needle, sew around the edges of the pennant, backstitching at the opposite end of the opening. Make a pair of pennants from each fabric combination. 8. Clip points to remove bulk from the seams and turn the pennant right side out through the opening. Carefully push out points with wooden dowel or chopstick; press flat. Repeat with remaining pennants. Sew a scant ¼" seam around the edges of the pennant, sewing the opening closed as you stitch. 9. Fold down the top point so the back fabric shows on the front of the triangular-shaped pennant; press fold firmly. Repeat with all remaining pennants
