General Information_ Tournament Features 3-game guarantee – chance of 5 games An Official tournament program will be available for purchase. Rosters on each team will be included as provided by team contact. Updated daily scores at all sites will be available on the website at www.superrink.org. Team and individual awards for 1st and 2nd place winners. Player Eligibility The tournament is USA Hockey Sanctioned. Players must be age eligible. USA Hockey Age Classifications are implemented Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any team, player and/or coach because of false representation; improper use of alcohol or drugs; destruction of property; or unsportsmanlike conduct or disorderly behavior. Tournament Services Medical Staff – qualified medical staff will be assigned throughout the competition and will be available to evaluate injuries and administer emergency first aid. Merchandise – Tournament t-shirts and other merchandise will be available for purchase. Pucks – Practice and game pucks will be supplied for each team. Home vs. Away – HOME = light jerseys; AWAY = dark jerseys. The Home team will be listed on the top of a bracket OR listed first on the schedule. Tournament Credentials Players and coaches will receive an official tournament credential to be used for free admission to all tournament competitions and special events to include all Schwan Cup High School Varsity and JV Games. Credentials are non-transferable. Improper use of a credential by any individual other than the player or coach will result in forfeiture and possible disqualification from the tournament. Credentials will provide access to all Schwan Cup tournament games running December 26, 2013-January 1, 2014. Tournament Rules 1. USA Hockey registered referee’s will be used. 2. Medical attendants will be provided for each game. 3. USA Hockey rules as modified by MN Hockey for the classification involved must be adopted. 4. Canadian teams must wear protective equipment as designated by CAHA. 5. Metro League Rules for Jr. Gold classification must be adopted. Tournament Rule Modifications 1. Team/Player Conduct a. Players and spectators should be advised that the Schwan Cup has established a “ZERO TOLERANCE” policy in regards to abusive language and unsportsmanlike behavior towards opposing team players, coaches and fans, as well as referees, volunteers and tournament officials. Players or spectators violating this policy will be immediately escorted from the tournament. 2. Four Coaches per team will be allowed on the player’s bench during tournament play. 3. One time-out per team per game will be allowed. 4. No goal judges will be used. 5. Game Protocol: a. Pee Wee Divisions i. Three 15mn stop-time periods (Ice resurface every two periods of play). ii. Five minute warm-up. iii. All minor penalties will be 1:30 for the Pee Wee division only. iv. Starting Line-ups will be announced. v. National Anthem (played prior to the first game of the day on each rink and for all championship games.) vi. A five goal lead during the third period will dictate running time until the lead is less than five goals. vii. One 5mn running-time overtime period. Overtime will be used in all games. viii. Shoot-out will be used in all divisions when games remain tied after the overtime period. ix. Three player shoot-out, visiting team shoots first. If after three players from both teams have completed this procedure and the tie remains, teams will alternate shooters until an advantage is held. No player may shoot twice until every eligible player has gone once. Players in the penalty box at the end of OT will not be eligible for the shoot-out. 6. Game Protocol: a. The red line will be used for icing only. Games may start up to 10 minutes early. Checking will only be permitted in boys games age Bantam and above. The tag-up rule will apply in levels Bantam and above. Any player and/or coach using remarks that are considered a racial slur in nature, and which are heard by a game official, will be automatically disqualified from the Schwan Cup Tournament. The tournament advisory committee reserves the right to review any racially motivated incident for further disciplinary action. 12. Tie Break Procedure for Round Robin and Pool Play divisions. a. Top 2 teams from each pool move to Championship bracket. b. Six Team Division: Pool play (3 games) with one crossover game. Top 2 teams from each pool advance to Championship bracket. c. Win = 2 points, Loss = 0 points, OT = 1 point (shoot-out winner is awarded the additional 1 point) d. If a tie in the standings occurs with three teams, and the tie breaking procedure eliminates one of the teams and two teams still remain tied, the eliminated team is removed and the procedure is re-employed with the remaining two teams. Protests No protests will be allowed regarding rules interpretations or judgment calls made by game officials. Only protests related to game rules that can be addressed within the USA Hockey rulebook or regarding player eligibility will be heard by tournament officials. If it is determined that a player has violated an eligibility rule, both the player and the head coach will be disqualified from the tournament. Disqualifications will begin from the point where a player is determined ineligible and will not affect prior results or change a team’s record. However, all goals will be subtracted from a team’s total of goals for record in which the ineligible player was a part of the scoring play (either goal or assist).
