MEMORIES
I remember my very first play at Lincoln High School. I was a lowly sophomore in a class full of big scary juniors and seniors who knew what they were doing, and were very talented. Needless to say, I was a bit intimidated, but I had a passion for drama, just as they did, so we got along swimmingly. Jenny Williamson took me under her wing, helped me to try out for the part of Kate Keller in The Miracle Worker, and introduced me to “the cool kids”, meaning the veteran drama crew. After that, I spent most of my time hiding from Mr. Cummins, trying on costumes, learning theater make-up, and going over lines again and again and again. I can’t tell you how many times the cast went to Hans’ house to rehearse (and play Rock Band). The most poignant memory I have from putting on that first play was during the very first Friday show with a live audience. The cheesecloth was down in front of me and I was standing beside a cradle. The first few seconds after the curtain went up felt like hours as I completely forgot every line in the entire play, and then scrambled to remember them, while remaining composed beside the baby cradle. It was intense. -Vicki Binning
