LINDA LOCKWOOD Vetran CiB judge Avid gardener Linda Lockwood was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. She is trained as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and maintains that career to this day to support her gardening habit. Linda learned her basic gardening skills from her mother as they did a walk about the family yard/garden each morning before school. Together, they checked on the progress of the peas and pansies each day. Linda later got "hooked on gardening" when she attended a bench show hosted by The Edmonton Horticultural Society (EHS) in the early 70's. "Someone" convinced her to join the executive of EHS and she held several different positions over the years. It was when she was trying to find judges for the bench shows and the "Yard and Garden" competition that Linda realized there was an acute shortage of available judges. Linda's EHS exposure led her to take some judging class and now she is a certified judge with The Alberta Horticultural Association for cut bloom, floral design, potted plants, fruits and vegetables. Linda is also a certified judge for African Violets, Gesneriads, and lilies (one more apprentice in July 2007). Linda has been working with Communities in Bloom since 2005 after attending a workshop on judging "Yards and Gardens" sponsored by EHS and taught by Brendan Casement.
