BRAD WACHLER NAMED TO LEAD LIONS Brad Wachler has been hired as the vice president for intercollegiate athletics at Lindenwood University’s St. Charles campus, effective July 1. Before accepting the position at Lindenwood, Wachler served as senior associate athletics director at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University, where he ran the day-today operations within the athletics department. He brings to Lindenwood a vast experience in finance, strategic planning, compliance/risk management, and more. He has a law degree from Wayne State University. “It is my desire to build Lindenwood into a preeminent power in Division II,” Wachler said. “There is a strong foundation in place. Lindenwood has some of the nicest facilities in the country, well-rounded students, and a visionary president who is committed to the success of intercollegiate athletics.”

LINDENWOOD AND UNDER ARMOUR TEAM UP The Lindenwood University system has signed a five-year agreement with Under Armour to be the exclusive outfitter of its sports teams on the St. Charles, Mo., and Belleville, Ill., campuses. System President Michael D. Shonrock said the quality of the Under Armour product line and UA’s commitment to health and technology were influencing factors in the decision, as was Under Armour’s appeal to collegeaged students. He said Lindenwood will begin working with BSN Sports as the local distributor and provider of Under Armour products. Jon George, president of Lindenwood’s StudentAthlete Advisory Committee and men’s lacrosse player, is impressed with the change. “The success of a great program starts with great people,” George said. “After that, it is about giving those people the resources to succeed. When it comes to gear, athletes want the best. Under Armour produces high quality apparel and gear. This is an awesome switch and a huge step in the right direction.” Bre Zanders, SAAC vice president and women’s basketball player, said, “student-athletes are excited about going to the Under Armour brand. For the female student-athletes, Under Armour offers a greater selection for us to choose from.”

LINDENWOOD COMPLETES ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL 2015-16 CAMPAIGN In its third year as a full-time member of NCAA Division II, the Lindenwood Lions Athletics Department proved why it is “Like No Other” during the 2015-16 school year. Several Lindenwood teams and individuals had record-setting years on the field of play and, most importantly, in the classroom. The fall season for the Lions football team was highlighted by Lindenwood junior linebacker Connor Harris. Harris was named first team All-American by the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association and D2football.com while leading Lindenwood this past season with 184 total tackles which set a new NCAA Division II record. Harris also set the MIAA career tackles record during the season. As we turned the calendar to 2016, under the direction of head coaches Lance Randall and Tony Francis, the men’s and women’s basketball teams advanced to the MIAA post-season tournament for the second consecutive year. But the real post-season success came from the wrestling and swimming and diving programs.

The women’s gymnastics team also had an outstanding winter, winning its second consecutive USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Team Championship. As the weather turned warmer, the Lindenwood golf programs started to heat up on the course, and in the classroom. Both men’s and women’s teams advanced to the NCAA Regionals, and both excelled academically as well. The women’s golf team had an outstanding 3.91 team GPA, while the men’s GPA was a 3.54. Both of those were the highest male and female team GPA’s during the spring semester. They were not alone with success; academically the average of all 597 NCAA student-athletes was an amazing 3.27 GPA

Senior Terrell Wilbourn became the first Lindenwood wrestler to go undefeated and won the NCAA title at 157 lbs., while the team finished in 17th place. That same weekend, in Indianapolis, the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs were making history of their own. Sophomore Serghi Golban won three individual NCAA titles and helped lead the men’s team to the highest Lindenwood team finish in its NCAA history, second place. Meanwhile the women’s team was swimming fast as well, finishing the meet in 9th place, its highest finish ever.
