LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE PELA’s Legislative Committee deals with legislative proposals, generally in the Colorado General Assembly. We have reviewed bills in the state legislature, proposed legislation, participated in the drafting process, helped to build a coalition to promote expansion of the remedies available under our state anti-discrimination statute, met with legislators and members of the legislative staff, met with representatives of the Governor’s office, testified in legislative hearings, and contacted legislators’ constituents to try to build support for our legislative proposals. We have more than a dozen members, but we can always use more help. Our busiest season is during the 120 days that the Colorado General Assembly is in sesssion, starting in early January of each year. We have worked very closely with the lobbying firm that represents PELA’s, our members’ and clients’ interests in the state legislature. We meet sometimes on a weekly basis during the heart of the legislative session, less often at other times. Barry Roseman is the current committee chair.
