High school is said to be the best years of life. Everything changes, and it’s over before you know it. Once a sophomore, now a senior, one does not realize or appreciate, how much time flies. With age comes responsibility, and with responsibility comes stress. I would be lying if I said high school wasn’t stressful. One person helped lift that weight off my shoulders. Her name is Lisa McCabe. Mrs. McCabe was my 10th grade English teacher; known then as Ms. Zelinski. She always encouraged me with my writing, which she also prided me for. I am a very doubtful person; in myself and in my work. She always helped me remember I am good enough, and her kindness would never shy me away from asking for guidance. She knew I was decent in English and it was my favored class. Mrs. McCabe helped me push forward. Not only did she encourage me academically, she encouraged me personally. Throughout my sophomore year, I was enduring personal and family issues, causing me to be upset in class, sometimes needing to leave. Mrs. McCabe would meet me in the hall and ask what was going on, and comfort me, something I very much needed at the time. Mrs. McCabe cared for my wellbeing, not just my academic standing and passing her class. She helped me get through most of the troubles I faced sophomore year and I can truly say if it wasn’t for her I don’t think I would have finished the year. I have not had Mrs. McCabe as a teacher since sophomore year, but that does not mean she has strayed away from asking me how I am doing and if I need help with anything. She always had a great concern for me, in and out of the classroom, always making sure I was okay. My junior year of high school was my roughest, I constantly found myself in the guidance office or Mrs. McCabe’s classroom until I decided to switch to Cyber School for the remainder of the

year. Mrs. McCabe encouraged me that I would feel better, and that I would get through this and be successful after graduation. Her reassurance assisted me to work harder and gain more confidence in myself. She is the reason I came back to school for my senior year, instead of staying on Cyber School. I thoroughly believe that if it wasn’t for Mrs. McCabe, I wouldn’t have gotten through my last few years of high school, and I would have completely gave up. She is an amazing woman with a kind heart and inspires me every time I speak to her. Even as a senior, she checks up on me, asking me how everything is going for me, remembering those days I would cry to her in the hall as a sophomore. Any upcoming freshman will be truly lucky to have her as an English teacher, her teaching, along with her kind heart, is a guaranteed pleasurable year.
