5) Liverpool 5-1 Chelsea- 1996

Number five comes from the early days of the Premier League before the Liverpool vs Chelsea rivalry really kicked-off. The Reds went into the match knowing a victory would take them top of the league table.

And what a victory it turned out to be. Liverpool's attacking power which consisted of; John Barnes, Robbie Fowler and Patrick Berger, proved too hot to handle. It was the Czech Republic international, Berger who stole the show, scoring twice in this impressive victory.

4) Chelsea 1-3 Liverpool- 2015

Jurgen Klopp’s first ever Premier League victory came in this impressive win over the league champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last season.  Despite going behind after just three minutes to a Ramires header, Liverpool fought back and tore Chelsea apart.

This was the first glimpse of what Liverpool under Klopp were capable of, as they pressed high and didn’t give Chelsea a minute to breathe. Philippe Coutinho scored a wonder goal on the stroke of half-time to equalize. The Brazilian put the Reds ahead in the second half before Christian Benteke sealed the convincing win ten minutes from time. Klopp said he wanted to ‘turn doubters into believers’ and this match proved he was very much capable of doing so.

3) Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool- 2006

Liverpool’s FA Cup win in 2006 will forever be remembered for Steven Gerrard’s stunning last-minute equalizer to take the match to extra time. This gutsy semi-final win over Chelsea at Old Trafford was equally impressive. With Chelsea romping to another Premier League title, Liverpool were definitely the underdogs.

However, the Reds defied the odds with a backs-to-the-wall performance and two outstanding goals. John Arne Riise’s free-kick after 20 minutes put Rafael Benitez’s side ahead before Luis Garcia’s sublime effort from 25yards doubled Liverpool’s lead. Didier Drogba pulled a goal back with 20 minutes left but the Reds saw the game out.

2) Liverpool 1-0 Chelsea- 2007

One of the most intense and nerve-racking games at Anfield in modern history. This Champions League semifinal second leg pulled on every emotion possible. Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, defender Daniel Agger levelled the tie after 20 minutes with a fine finish from Steven Gerrard’s free-kick.

With both sides desperate not to lose, the game lacked any real quality and went to penalties. A tense Anfield crowd held their collective breath with a space in the Champions League final up for grabs. Misses from Chelsea’s Arjen Robben and Geremi gave Dirk Kuyt the chance to give Liverpool the win. The Dutchman made no mistake from the spot and sent Anfield into pandemonium.

1) Liverpool 1-0 Chelsea - 2005

Probably the greatest night at Anfield.

In a match fuelled by raw emotion and drama, Liverpool booked their place in the final of Europe’s elite competition for the first time in 20 years, thanks to one of the most controversial goals in football history.

Following a first-leg stalemate at Stamford Bridge the week before, Liverpool knew they would need to score against Chelsea and stop the Londoners from scoring a precious away goal. On a magical Tuesday evening, they managed to do both!

In fact, the only ‘goal’ of the game came after just four minutes. Milan Baros was put through on goal and nicked the ball over Petr Cech with the ball squirming out of play. Spaniard, Luis Garcia prodded the ball towards goal with William Gallas making a last-ditch attempt to clear it off the line.

Despite mass uncertainty, the goal was given and Garcia wrote himself into Liverpool history books. The Reds held on and went on to win an incredible Final against AC Milan despite being three goals down at half-time.

Can Klopp inspire another memorable win?

A win against Chelsea next Tuesday could prove crucial in Liverpool’s efforts to win a first league title in 27 years.

Another ‘Special Night At Anfield’ could well be on the cards if Klopp and the players bring their A-game!
