You source the materials and equipment that oil and gas companies need to get their work done… your job is from procurement, to awarding supplier contracts and post-contract award management. You don’t only help companies to get what they need, but when they want it and how they want it.

What does this career look like? You bring a strong supply of solutions to problems that demand attention on the supply chain of goods and services. Whether you need to solve a quality issue, material shortage or transportation delay, your job is about resolution. You support project managers by ensuring they are moving forward in their production schedule. As smooth as you make the flow of materials it’s also thanks to your relationship management skills that you find solutions. A strong communicator, you manage relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers across the supply chain. You work in lockstep with internal specialists (e.g. mud, drilling completions, transportation, operations, etc.) to analyze spending along with market trends.

What would I do? When you’re not working with internal staff or external clients and suppliers, you’re working with numbers and terms, Requests for Proposals and Information (RFP/RFI), bid analyses and contracts are part of your world. Tasks you might also do in a day include:



4 Monitoring and tracking key supply chain metrics (e.g., cost savings, cost avoidance, inventory, inventory losses) 4 Providing ongoing analyses in areas such as transportation costs, parts procurement, back orders and delivery processes 4 Researching industry benchmarks (pricing, quality, product changes, service levels, trends, etc.) and analyzing the supply market and supplier capability to provide strategic insight 4 Identifying and driving process improvements, and taking the lead role on resolving issues with suppliers

HOW DO I GET HERE? A post-secondary degree in business or supply chain management may be required. • A Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation is the most common designation request by employees. A certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) designation may also be acceptable.

HEALTH & SAFETY TRAINING Health and Safety courses may be relevant depending on site visits, potentially including standard and emergency first aid, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) or Construction Safety Training System (CSTS).

HOW CAN I WORK IN LNG? As Canada prepares for the launch of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector, this occupation will play a key role in: • Offsite materials fabrication • LNG export facility construction • LNG export facility operations • Natural gas pipeline construction When LNG takes off, you can be a part of the action!
