Reflection:

Qumran Caves

Questions:

In 1947, a young Bedouin shepherd was looking for his sheep in the Qumran Caves on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea. He discovered some clay jars, which turned out to be the most significant archeological find of the 20th century. It wasn’t the jars, however, that were the amazing discovery. It was the ancient scrolls that had been preserved within them for 2,000 years. In the years following, they discovered eleven caves in total and fragments from over 800 scrolls. It was an incredible find! But let us not lose sight of what has the highest value in this story… Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:10-16; John 5:31-40

3.

Do you believe the biblical canon is still open or closed? I.e., if someone discovered another authentic version of the story of Jesus or another letter from Paul, do you think it should be added to the Bible?

4.

What evidence do you have that the Bible is a book like no other?

5.

The idea is that the Bible is not the “treasure” but the “treasure map.” How do you feel about that? Do you agree or disagree? If this is true, what then is the “treasure”?
