Incorrect logo usage

Logo usage The National Society of Collegiate Scholars logo is an important visual expression used to identify our organization. Our logo is composed of four basic elements: the book, torch, stars and laurel leaves. Our logo is a valuable asset that must be protected. It is everyone’s responsibility to adhere to our branding standards when using our logo. Following these guidelines will reinforce our brand. CLEARSPACE Maintain a clearspace around the NSCS logo in order to protect the logo from distracting graphics or type.

Do not combine logo with any other logo or elements of other logos

Do not place logo on a busy background

Territory

To be most effective, the NSCS identifier should always be surrounded by the prescribed minimum amount of blank space. This will prevent crowding and will set it off distinctly from any accompanying copy, illustrative material and other graphic elements.

In instances where the identifier is not being used to identify NSCS and rather as a texture or abstract design choice, the territory is negotiable.

The dotted lines surrounding the NSCS identifiers on this page delineate the minimum territory into which no copy, illustrative material, or other graphic elements may intrude. These minimum spaces should never be violated. Because distance is relative, a proportional marker can be identified by measuring the width of the star, then applying that distance as a margin to the exterior of the furthest edges.

Control The success of the NSCS identity depends on the accurate use of the identifier. Because even slight deviations will diminish the impact of the identifier, the guidelines in this identification manual must be strictly followed.

or chapters need to add logotype to the identifier, the guidelines illustrated below must be followed.

The examples here illustrate acceptable and unacceptable applications of the NSCS identifier. To prevent errors in implementing standards, verify the use of the identifier against these samples.

I N A P P RO P R I AT E U S AG E O F CO LO R S The NSCS colors should never be replaced by other colors outside of the guidelines set forth in this manual. This decreases the impact of the NSCS identifier and prevents the foundation of strong identity recognition.

SI Z E R E S T R A I N T S The NSCS identifier should never be any smaller than ½ inch wide.

WAT ER M A R K I N G As a subtle reinforcement for the identifier—and ultimately NSCS—occasional instances where the identifier is watermarked are acceptable. These applications should never exceed more than 15 percent density. SCALING The NSCS identifier may be scaled to a number of different sizes for easy application in various situations. In this situation, it is imperative that the scale does not fall below a visually recognizable size and proportion (see “Size Restraints”). The NSCS identifier should never be stretched disproportionately from its original form, neither vertically nor horizontally. A P P LY I N G T H E M A R K TO A CO LO R ED B ACKG RO U N D The NSCS identifier should only be applied to a colored background using the solid one-color application of the mark.
