London’s Oldest Surviving Wood Paved Road – Unreported London
Roads in the capital were once paved with wood to protect horses’ hooves and to mu e the sound on cobbled roads. Because wood absorbs scents and bacteria the
roads were eventually repaved with cobblestones.
The road used to have a tavern that was home to thieves and bad characters, but today carries a hefty price tag. Today there is a three-bedroom townhouse for sale on the road, priced at £2.6m.
