Team Make-up Players are picked at the time of tryouts. After tryouts the coaches and club director may choose to add “Regional players” to the teams. These “Regional players” will be able to participate in practices with the team and get the same instruction and reps that travel players get. They will be offered to dress for local tournaments. Playing time at these tournaments is not guaranteed, it is up to the coach and situation. They will not travel with the team unless a need arises and it is approved by the club director.
Membership & Fees Fury’s membership fees include all of the following: • Tournament fees, including but not limited to: o Entry Fees o USA Volleyball Registration for players and coaches o Incidentals that may occur at a tournament (i.e. lost balls) • Fury Membership Fees, including but not limited to: o Coaches salaries o Technology fee o Court fees o Other costs associated with administration Fury’s membership fees to NOT include: • Uniform costs (separate through Smack) • Personal tournament travel, lodging, and food Families are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and food. The fees for Fury make up the entire cost of running the program so payment is crucial. Please understand that for the club to run properly and for us to make sure we secure spots in tournaments payment needs to be made on due dates. If payment is not made in a timely manner or you fall behind on payment then the athlete will not be able to practice or participate in tournaments. A $25 late fee will be attached to your account if you become more than 30 days late. If accounts are not paid in full by June 1st, the athlete will not be able to participate in the summer session and will not be able to attend nationals. If it becomes necessary for Fury to turn your account over to a collection agency the family will then be responsible for all extra fees. If your account is not paid in full before the start of a new volleyball season your ability to play for another club may be affected.

“I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual is the ultimate champion.” Mia Hamm
Parent Conduct Fury wants all of our families to be role models. Therefore we do not condone hostile, aggressive confrontations between a parent and any official, or a parent and any coach, or a parent and any athlete, or a parent and any other parent, whether the coach, athlete, or parent is a member of Fury or any other club. Violation of this policy may result in the parent begin removed or the athlete being dismissed from the club.
Practice and Playing Time Louisville Fury believes that playing time for all players is determined by the performance of the player, and is left up to the discretion of the coach. • • • • •

We do not guarantee equal playing time at tournaments, playing time is a privilege not a right. We do provide quality practice time that gives everyone the tools to become successful When you come to practice be prepared to give 110%, go all out and work hard Attendance at practice is required. There are some acceptable excuses, family emergency or being sick enough to miss school are two of them. If the athlete is not going to be at practice, it is the athlete’s responsibility to contact the coach to let them know. If working to promote responsibility the athlete should be the one contacting the coach Excessive absences from practice can and will effect playing time Start time for practice is when we can actually take the court. Please arrive early to make sure you are dressed with shoes on and are able to help with putting the net up if that is needed. Horseplay in the practice facilities is strictly prohibited. No kicking balls, hanging on rims, throwing balls or other activities that could damage the facilities or injury an athlete. Athletes are encouraged to bring water to practices, and they will receive water breaks. It is our job to make sure all practice facilities are cleaned up when we leave. If nets have to be taken down or adjusted it is the responsibility of the entire team to do this. In case of inclement weather, check the club website, or social media first for changes, or look for a text message from your coach letting you know about practice.

Athletes are expected to be in the gym, dressed and ready to warm up at the scheduled arrival time. Many gyms prohibit outside food and drink. Please be mindful of this as clubs can be penalized if parents or players ignore this rule. The parents are responsible for providing transportation to and from out of town tournaments. Players are not allowed to drive themselves to out of town events. Athletes are expected to attend every tournament. If you cannot make an event, it is up to the athlete to notify the coach as soon as they are aware they will be missing the event. All parents, coaches, and athletes are to leave the gym clean and neat Except for starting times, most USAV tournaments do not follow a set time schedule. Matches will begin 10 minutes after the end of the previous match. Because of this expect to play all day. Athletes shall refrain from the use of cell phones on the bench during a match Athletes shall refrain from the use of cell phones while performing their work duties Athletes will not be allowed to leave the tournament site until excused by the coach. The coach will not do this until all work responsibilities for the entire team have been completed. This means that even if you are not working the last match of the day, you are expected to remain with your team until the work is done.
Team Officiating Officiating is a shared responsibility of the entire team. You may be required to line judge, score keep, score flip or officiate at a tournament. Except in cases of true emergency no athlete may leave a tournament before the work assignment of the entire team is complete. All athletes are encouraged to attend a scorekeeper clinic. We expect all players to be able to be able to be a scorekeeper.

Grievance Procedure Knowing when to communicate and how to communicate with your athlete’s coach is a concern for almost every parent at some point during the season. Most often the concern is how to inquire about issues surrounding playing time. Fury encourages the athlete to talk with the coach when they have a problem about their playing time, or if the expectations of the coach are unclear. It is appropriate for the athlete to ask the coach what he needs to do to get more opportunities to play in matches. What coaches will not do is discuss “coaching decisions.” Coaching decisions include, but are not limited to, specific match decisions (who played when, who was subbed in or out and when, etc). The amount of time any given athlete is on the court is a combination of many things including but not limited to, the athlete’s ability, the athlete’s potential, the team needs at the moment, the team needs in the future, the players attitude, the work the player has but in, and what the coach feels is the best more at that particular moment. The coach will not be required to defend his/her thought process or conclusions and it is improper for a parent to request that. Fury follows the 24-hour rule when it comes to parents discussing concerns with the coach. This means that the parent must let 24 hours pass before contacting the coach about any issues. Let the time pass, it’s amazing how less angry a person can become after some time passes. If after that time you still feel the desire to express your views then schedule a time to meet before or after a practice. If the athlete or parent has a concern the please proceed in the following manner. 1. The athlete should speak to the coach about the matter. 2. If things are not resolved then the parent, athlete should schedule a meeting with the coach. 3. If this does not resolve the issue the family should then schedule a meeting with the club director The recommended time for these meetings to occur would be before or after a practice. Tournaments are not an appropriate site to set meetings. Please remember that coaches/directors will not engage in discussions about coaching decisions.
Handbook Changes Louisville Fury has the right to change this handbook at any time without notice. Any policies that are changed after the player and parent contracts signed will be given directly to the parents and players. Every effort will be made to make sure no changes are made during a season, but sometimes it cannot be avoided. Any issue/item not covered in this handbook will be at the sole discretion of the coaches and club director.
