Long Range Identification & Tracking (LRIT) The International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations for Long Range Identification & Tracking System are now in effect. LRIT will improve Maritime safety and security by monitoring the movement of over 50,000 cargo and passenger vessels. LRIT represents a challenge for coastal states and flag state administrations seeking to implement the best technology and gain from the introduction of LRIT. Although the primary purpose of LRIT is maritime security there are also substantive gains possible in other areas including improved port efficiency, merchant maritime operator efficiency and environmental monitoring. We believe that LRIT is most effective when properly combined with existing regional and local monitoring systems; in particular the Automatic Identification System (AIS), the Ship Security and Alerting System (SSAS) and Fisheries Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS). Sophisticated software is available to generate Vessel Movement Reports and to augment existing aerial/sea surveillance programs. Combining these technologies requires sophisticated software, integration and analysis tools; a task Absolute is uniquely placed to provide.
“
LRIT came into effect on 1-Jan-2009. Almost all large merchant maritime ships are now required to report their location at regular intervals, to their Flag State, generally every six hours.

Absolute is uniquely placed to assist government and commercial customers with LRIT. We process more LRIT tracking data today than any other supplier – and our products are considered the benchmark for Application Service Provider and National Data Center installations. Absolute was awarded a five year contract to supply LRIT services to the Panama Maritime Authority, the largest National Data Center within the International Maritime Organization’s LRIT system. Within 30 days of contract signing AMTS had delivered a fully operational LRIT monitoring center, LRIT Conformance Testing facility, and ASP; including registering over 5,000 ships using electronic records maintained by the Panama Maritime Authority and cross referenced with Inmarsat’s ESAS system. We look forward to discussing your requirements for Long Range Tracking & Identification.
