LYBSL LOCAL RULES FOR USSSA BASEBALL 6U BASEBALL FUNDAMENTAL RULES In General, USSSA Rules will govern all 6U Baseball Games with the exception of the following local rules. 1.

Baselines shall be set at 60 feet. A halfway line shall be placed to help determine placement of base runners.

2.

Balls must be hit past the 5 foot radius in front of home plate to be playable. Balls not passing the 5-foot radius, or simply falling off of a hit tee, shall be considered a foul ball.

3.

Three offensive coaches are allowed on the playing field when at bat. The Head Coach or designee will pitch to the batter. First and third base coaches near respective bases. Two defensive coaches are allowed on the playing field for the defense. Defensive coaches must stay in the outfield area.

4.

A team must have a minimum of eight (8) defensive players to start the game. However, in the event of injury, may finish the game with seven (7). Remaining team members may play defense at the same time, but no more than six (6) players can be in the infield.

5.

No stealing bases. Sliding is allowed, however, players must stay on their base until the ball is hit.

6.

The Recreation Department will approve the ball used in games.

7.

Infield fly rule does not apply.

8.

Players MAY NOT roll the ball to a fielder in an ATTEMPT to make a play. The ball shall be declared dead and all runners shall advance one extra base. This is an umpire's judgment call.

9.

Players are allowed four (4) pitches to attempt to hit the ball. There are no bases on balls.

10.

Slinging bats is PROHIBITED. 1st time-batter warned 2nd time-batter out 3rd time-batter out of game

11.

Batting rotations cannot be changed after the game begins. If a player arrives after the game has started, no matter how late, he/she is added to the bottom of the batting order.

12.

If a players is hurt in the game and cannot play, move batting order up by one batter, with no penalty. If the player can return, do so and return to the original batting order.

13.

If a player is hurt in the field and cannot continue to play, play will stop immediately and all base runners will advance if forced or actively seeking (past the halfway mark) that base.

14.

If a live ball hits a coach, the ball is dead and replayed. If a pitcher coach is used, then they MUST vacate the field of play as soon as the ball is hit. Any interference results in a dead ball. This is an umpire's judgment call.

15.

Half innings will be treated like regular baseball, 3 outs and teams switch. If a runner gets out he must return to dugout.

16.

Games consist of 4 innings (3 1/2 if home team is ahead). Games become official after 2 complete innings ( 1 1 /2 if home team is ahead). An official score book will be kept and there will be season standings.

To request time, the pitcher must have possession of the ball inside of the pitcher circle, and raise one or both hands. They may not try to simultaneously make a play on the base runners. The center of the 16' diameter circle shall be 40' from the back of home plate.

18.

Any runner that has passed the halfway mark when time is granted may advance to an unoccupied base without risk of being put out. All runners not across the halfway mark will return to their previous base without risk of being put out. Time must be granted by the umpire in accordance with rule #17.

19.

Pitching shall be at a minimum distance of 20 ft. (overhand for baseball and underhand for softball). A player may receive a TOTAL of four (4) pitches to put the ball in play. If the player has not put the ball in play after these pitches, the player will be given a maximum of two (2) swings off the tee to put the ball in play. All fouls on the last 4th swing and 2nd swing off tee will be treated like regular baseball.

20.

Batters shall wear helmets. In addition, all defensive catchers shall have on a helmet with facemask and equipment. (Minimum catcher must wear catcher's mask and chest protector; we understand that the shinguards probably will not fit correctly)

21.

A ball thrown outside of the fence or in the dugout becomes a dead ball and all base runners are entitled to advance on base. Additionally, any ball overthrown at any base will be awarded on base.

22.

Balls that get caught in the fence when hit constitute a ground rule double.

23.

Home team shall keep the official score book. Visiting team will keep the scoreboard and announce teams. Visiting team will receive one out each inning until someone is in the pressbox.

24.

All coaches are PROHIBITED from grabbing, holding, or touching of base runners at all times. One warning per coach, per game will be given. Any subsequent violations shall force that coach to be confined to the dugout while their team is on offense during the remainder of the game.

25.

Umpires are the responsibility of the Recreation Department; and they are in charge of the games. Umpire judgment calls cannot be questioned.

26.

Recreation Department Rainout Policy applies.
