De-ii cer/Anti-ii cer

Enhancing performance while inhibiting corrosion: Caliber M1000 is a blend of Caliber de-icer with 30% MgCl2. Caliber de-icers are derived from corn and are specifically engineered to enhance the eutectic point, anti-icing properties and viscosity of the MgCl2. Caliber M1000 is designed for anti-icing, direct application de-icing, frost prevention, and pre-wetting solids. Caliber de-icer inhibits corrosion and suppresses crystal formation within the MgCl2. Caliber M1000 also increases the friction coefficient of the MgCl2 and aids in the prevention of the "slickness" period sometimes experienced when using chloride brines.

Uses or Application Anti-icing As an anti-icer, Caliber M1000 provides superior "anti-bonding" properties, allowing removal of snowpack with simple plowing. Recommended Application Rate:

• Frost Prevention 15 – 20 gallons per lane mile • Anti-icing 20 – 30 gallons per lane mile (40 gallons maximum)

Pre-wetting As an onboard pre-wetting agent for salt and sand, Caliber M1000 reduces bounce and scatter, increases the speed at which the salt begins working, increases the melting capacity of the salt, and permits the use of salt at lower temperatures. Recommended Application Rate:

• 5 – 15 gallons per ton of granular material, depending upon the solid used and the performance objective.

De-icing As a liquid de-icer, Caliber M1000 provides increased performance vs. other liquid products. When applied in a stream pattern, Caliber M1000 vertically penetrates the snowpack and breaks the bond at the road surface. Recommended Application Rate:

• Direct Application De-icing 40 – 60 gallons per lane mile

Typical Performance Properties Caliber de-icer significantly improves low temperature performance of MgCl2. The absence of the recrystalization phase results in the elimination of crystal fallout problems. The long flattened curve in the phase diagram below shows the product consistency and predictability in a large temperature range. Based upon testing performed by Forensic Dynamics, Inc., at the request of the PNS, Caliber M1000 displayed superior friction properties as compared to the most commonly used liquid de-icers.

80.00 Magnesium Chloride (MgCl2) 30% The Pacific Northwest Snowfighters (PNS) Calcium Chloride (CaCl2) 30% 86.00 coalition has adopted a 100.00 Rock Salt (NaCl) test based on a modified version of NACE TM-01-69 Calcium Chloride (CaCl2) 38% 121.00 to measure and rank de-icing chemicals in terms of relative corrosion toward ferrous metals. In this test, distilled water and salt are assigned relative corrosion rates of 0 and 100 respectively, and deicing chemicals are ranked according to these two standards. To be considered for use in the PNS states, a de-icer must score 30 or less (70% less corrosive than salt) on this scale. In this test Caliber M1000 was found to be less corrosive than Rock Salt, MgCl2 and CaCl2. (See chart above)
