INTRODUCTION This guide will show how to open up the PowerBook so that you may access the hard drive, and then show how to remove the hard drive.

TOOLS: Phillips #0 Screwdriver (1) Phillips #1 Screwdriver (1) Spudger (1)

Step 1 — Battery 

On the bottom of the device, locate the battery release latch near the front.



Slide the latch to the left in order to release the battery.

While still holding the latch, grasp the battery and gently pull on the battery enclosure until it begins to slide out from the front of the device.

 Place the battery aside

Step 4 — CD-ROM Drive 

Once you remove the battery, identify the CD-ROM Drive latch.

Pull the latch to the right.



While still pulling the latch, pull the CD-ROM Drive out.

Step 6

 You have now removed the CDROM Drive.

Step 7 — Keyboard 

Locate the speaker cover.



Grab each end of the cover and slide to the left.

Pull up on the speaker cover to remove it.



Lift the keyboard up from the back using a spudger.

Pull up until only the ribbon cable remains attached.



Lift up the keyboard and tilt it forward.

Locate the six screws on heat sink.



Use the Philips #1 screwdriver to remove the screws from heat sink.

Lift the heat sink from the back.



Remove the heat sink.

Step 17 

Gently pull up the beige ribbon lock on each side to unlock the ribbon cable from its connector. Pull up the lock a short distance, and then the cable will be free.



Remove the ribbon cable.

Completely remove keyboard.



Locate and identify the two screws that attach the hard drive to the computer.

Step 21 

Remove the screws with a Phillips #0 screwdriver.



Once the screws are removed, lift up the end of the hard drive using your finger tips.

Fully lift the hard drive vertically against the side of the computer.



Push a finger down onto the plastic strap.

Remove the hard drive from the computer by pushing down on the plastic strap and pulling up on the hard drive.



The hard drive is now separated from the computer.
