Active Shooter information for parents: In light of the most recent school shooting and questions/comments that have been communicated, I felt it was important to share the following with parents and community members of Magnet Cove High School: ● At the start of the 2014-2015 School year, all Magnet Cove School District staff, in addition to several members of local law enforcement, participated in an extensive Active Shooter Training provided by Strategos International. With their assistance at that time, we added necessary materials to our classrooms and updated our School Crisis Plan to reflect what we had learned from their evaluation of our school/buildings. Our staff participates in an active shooter drill at least once a year to make sure we stay refreshed on the procedures. The district has planned to complete this training again in the fall of 2018, as we have had new staff members join our team since the 2014 training was completed.
PERTAINING TO STUDENT DRILLS: We talk to the kids about what an active shooter drill means. We go over certain aspects, but do not go into great detail or practice these drills with students. We let them know that the adults will instruct them what to do if we ever need to use our active shooter procedure. This was the recommendation in the training provided. A vast majority of school shootings are committed by students who had knowledge of and access to the school in the past or presently. They were aware of the process and procedures in place for a school shooter. We make sure all of our adults are well prepared and would be able to lead the students through this type of incident if we were ever faced with it; however we don’t feel it is safe to provide the details of this exact procedure and practice it with the students.

ATTENTION PARENTS AND STUDENTS! We need new ideas for the next Panther Pride 5K! A meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 27th at 5:30 in the High School Commons to discuss the next race. This race is a joint effort between the Elementary, Middle School and High School PPO groups. The income generated from the race is split between the 3 groups. For High School, this money is used to fund PPO awarded Senior Scholarships, Year End Awards and Award Ceremony. We encourage everyone, students and parents, to attend to help come up with new ideas for the next race!
Freshmen Dues announcements will be going out the second week of February. All freshmen will need to bring $10 (cash or check) to Mrs. Cornell. Once you have paid, she will mark your name off of the list. These dues will go towards your senior prom. The more money you bring in your freshman and sophomore years, the less fundraising you'll have to do your junior year in order to have an awesome school prom! Please make checks out to Magnet Cove School District.
