THE OPPORTUNITY The Angeletti Group invites you to explore an exciting new opportunity at Main Line Animal Rescue (MLAR). The selected candidate who is appointed as Executive Director will win this assignment because he/she is an experienced, performance-driven leader with a passion for animal rescue. The Executive Director will direct the administrative, financial, managerial and supervisory activities necessary to carry out the policies and goals of the MLAR. The Candidate will: • Monitor all existing programs for effectiveness and recommend changes • Insure all animal care programs are administered humanely • Oversee the hiring, supervising, evaluating, disciplining, training, development and termination of all personnel • Ensure the implementation of personnel training programs that help staff accomplish their goals and maintain a working environment that attracts and retains quality people. AREAS OF EMPHASIS FOR THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 1. Administers fiscal management program including the preparation of the operating budget. Oversees the authorized and proper expenditure of funds and ensures that all funds,
physical assets and other property of the agency are appropriately safeguarded and administered. Oversees all financial accounts. Responsible for the security of all MLAR files, legal and historical documents. 2. Develops long-range plans and strategies. Ensures that all policies, plans and programs are regularly reviewed and modified in an efficient manner. Stays abreast of current animal welfare issues as well as the changing needs of the community. Assures the shelter philosophy and mission are relevant and practiced throughout MLAR. 3. Assists management with difficult situations and resolves problems of a unique or sensitive nature. Responds to community concerns regarding animal and agency issues. 4. Meets with management team on a regular basis to review reports, procedures, and problems and discuss new strategies. Attends meetings of employees as necessary. 5. Meets regularly with the Board of Directors to present reports and apprise them of important issues, problems and new ideas. Assists the various committees with their specific assignments. Serves as liaison between the governing body and MLAR staff. 6. Plans, organizes and directs programs that carry out MLAR’s goals as established by the Board of Directors. 7. Oversees the handling, treatment, care and adoption of all the animals admitted to the care of MLAR. 8. Manages the recruiting, hiring, development, employment, evaluation and discharge of all employees. 9. Creates and coordinates annual and long-term fund development plans in cooperation with the Board of Directors and the Director of Development. 10. Prepares an annual budget in conjunction with the Finance Committee, operates MLAR within the limits of the total approved budget, and informs the Board of the monthly status of MLAR’s financial position. 11. Represents the shelter as its chief spokesperson. Seeks out and maintains community contacts with government officials, agencies, civic groups, the media and other rescues. Attends pertinent workshops and seminars, maintains membership in professional organizations and networks with other executive directors. 12. Responsible for the oversight of MLAR’s fund raising and marketing programs. Fosters beneficial relationships with the public, media, donors and potential donors. In conjunction with Director of Development, meet with potential donors, as needed, to explain MLAR’s
mission, philosophy and long-range plans. Provides opportunities for community support through volunteering and donations. 13. Develops and implement, with the Board of Directors, a Strategic Plan designed to accelerate the accomplishment of MLAR mission and position MLAR for long-term success and viability. 14. Responsible for the oversight of operations. 15. Serves as liaison in MLAR legal affairs. Supervise and direct MLAR vendors, contractors and consultants to assure performance under their agreements with MLAR in compliance with MLAR budget and other constraints imposed by the Board of Directors. Ensure that satisfactory relationships exist between MLAR Counsel, Insurance Agents, Consultants, Accountants, Vendors and other (possible) contractors. QUALIFICATIONS & PREFERENCES •
Must have a minimum of ten years’ experience working in an animal shelter, animal rights or wildlife rehabilitation center, with at least two years’ administrative or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Must have demonstrated experience in fund development for a nonprofit, including annual funds, membership drives, planned giving and budget management.

Must have experience working with and coordinating multiple tasks using staff and volunteer resources, especially training and accommodating Board and Board Committee members in their MLAR functions.

Must be able to meet and deal with the public in a tactful and diplomatic manner, communicate effectively with other individuals, and be able to objectively evaluate problems and recommend appropriate actions.

Important considerations for this position include a sincere interest in and knowledge of the philosophy of animal rights issues and of animal health care; a demonstrated knowledge of MLAR and financial procedures for nonprofit agencies; a creative and dynamic approach to fund raising opportunities; demonstrated skills in human resource management and strong leadership abilities. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software applications is preferred.
